Producer Frank Darabont has helped bring The Walking Dead out of comics and into televisions across the world. It looks like he will now set his eyes elsewhere, likely on a return to the silver screen. Deadline reports that Darabont has officially stepped down as the showrunner for AMC's hit show.

No reason has been given for his exit of the show which is currently shooting season two, and will begin airing on the cable channel on October 16. It may be that the man behind The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist wishes to shift his focus to cinematic projects. Whatever the reasoning, the online trade says that Frank will still be involved with the zombie series in some capacity.

Season two will star Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Norman Reedus, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Michael Rooker and Pruitt Taylor Vince. You can check out the previously-revealed SDCC trailer down below.
