It should really comes as no surprise that this weekend The Hunger Games took the number spot in the box office. Gary Ross’ movie based on Suzanne Collins’ novel had a frenzy mounting over the past few weeks. If the studios get what they want out of the property it should do Twilight numbers. However, only next weekend numbers will indicate if the next tween frenzy is actually The Hunger Games. The film’s only direct competition next week comes from The Wrath of the Titans.

The Hunger Games did have the third highest grossing opening weekend of all time. It knocked Spider-Man 3 down one notch by 4 million dollars. Here are the all time opening weekend numbers:
