Greetings Maniacs, it's your News Editor, Robert Trate here. As the new News Editor for Mania.com I have spent the last three weeks adapting to my new position. It is a tad daunting at times checking out the different outlets and figuring out what's the most important news of the day. It's starts to wear on you but sometimes you do see patterns or hints of what’s to come.
This week I may have just pieced together my own bit of news. Pure speculation, but I think I may just be right. At The Avengers premiere in Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr. stated that after the press conference he had one more scene to shoot. Now this was immediately dismissed by director Joss Whedon and Marvel über producer Kevin Feige. However, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth said he did indeed have something yet to shoot.
What could this be?
My speculation is that it is for scene after the credits. A staple of the Marvel movies has been that one post-credit scene to tie these these characters, or the whole universe together. This week we saw another hint and it had to do with a TV Spot for ABC's Castle. It featured none other than Robert Downey Jr. and Nathan Fillion. It might seem odd but cross promoting a Disney movie (The Avengers) on a Disney owned Channel (ABC) with a Disney owned show (Castle) makes me go, “wait a second.”
Now it might seem like a long shot but with all the speculation about the next Marvel character to get the movie treatment, could this mean that property has Nathan Fillion in it? Was this little Castle/ Downey Jr. TV Spot a runoff after they filmed a certain scene?
My speculation is that Fillion is not only going to be introduced as the next hero in the Marvel Movie Universe, but he will be cast as Ant-Man. The Ant-Man movie has been the works for a while. So much so that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) has been attached. I know what you're thinking and it's two things. The first is that Edgar Wright would probably cast long time collaborator Simon Pegg as Ant-Man/ Henry Pym. The second thing is, Fillion has never carried a tent pole franchise/ film that didn't have a cult TV show attached to it. It is just a mere coincidence that that very same property has The Avengers director attached to it... hmmm.
As I said before, this is all just speculation. However, if The Avengers becomes the hot property, the Ant-Man scene kills, and Edgar Wright and Nathan Fillion show up at Comic Con together... well, you heard it here first.
