Toy Maniac: 10 Awesome Toys at Comic Con 2012 (Mania.com)

Another Comic Con has come and gone. This year was better than most recent visits to San Diego. Why? Well, I would have to surmise it was a culmination of things. The studios really embraced Comic Con this year. Security was great and there was an overall jolliness to the Con. What I really couldn't believe was how easy it was to get your exclusives this year. Hasbro and Mattel had short waits by the second day and still tons of product. I walked right onto the line without somebody telling me it was closed. Sweet! Comic Con is the last big debut for a lot of toys for the rest of the year; hello Hobbit figures! The list below isn’t everything. I posted the additional figures to Mania’s Facebook for those who want to see even more toys from Comic Con (here). So sit back, open a second window, and get ready to place some pre-orders.

10. Grandpa Munster in Dragula Riding Gear

Company: Art Asylum
Release Date: Fall 2013
Price: Unknown
Order: Diamond Select
I was thrilled with the first couple of Munsters figures that have come out as of late. This one nails it. The goggles, cheeky smile and, of course, the cigar.

9. Portal - Aperture Laboratories Handheld Portal Device

Company: NECA
Release Date: Fall 2012
Price: $139.99
Order: NECAonline.com
I have no idea what this is. However, I saw it everywhere and everyone wanted one. I’m usually up on my geek trends and nerd stuff, but I’m dumbfounded.

8. Major Blood - Sixth Scale Figure

Company: Sideshow Collectibles
Release Date: TBD
Price: TBD
Order: Not Yet Available
I was never a fan of the character or the original figure as a kid. He was usually the first Cobra character to get killed or captured. My, how times have changed. I had been saving up for last year’s Sideshow Collectible Zartan. Now it’s all about Blood.

7. Darth Vader - Peekbuster

Company: Hallmark
Release Date: October 2012
Price: $19.99
Order: Hallmark Store
I love a little Star Wars mixed in with Christmas. I already have tons of Hallmark Ornaments for the tree and Star Wars Christmas Bobble Heads for the banister. This one really is a no brainer. In three words: Ho Ho Ho.

6. Hudson - Aliens

Company: NECA
Release Date: 2013
Price: Unknown
Order: N/A Currently Pending Talent and Licensor Approval
One has to wonder why it took so long for Bill Paxton’s character to get a figure made. I just hope NECA actually makes this one.

5. The Dark Knight Returns Battle Statue

Company: DC Collectibles
Release Date: November 2013
Price: Unknown
Order at: DC Direct or Diamond Select
It seems odd that they would debut this one nearly 17 months in advance. It nonetheless has staying power and the awe factor to impress anyone that sees it on your desk or in your home.

4. The Batmobile from the 60’s TV Show

Company: Hot Toys via Sideshow Collectibles
Release Date: TBD
Price: TBD
Order: N/A (yet)
This item was so good that I had to include two pictures. My only thought is how far off are Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward)?

3. Granamyr - MOTUC

Company: MattyCollector
Release Date: 12/15/12
Price: $80
Order: MattyCollector.com
I barely remember this character from the animated series, but, regardless, the figure is incredible. This surpasses Gygor and the Shadow Beast as the must have MOTU creature. Again, Mattel gets my money for not only a brilliant sculpt, but for the scale on which they have created.

2. The Red Skull - Movie Masterpiece Series - Sixth Scale Figure

Company: Hot Toys via Sideshow Collectibles
Release Date: July 2012
Price: $199
Order: Here
There are, of course, two different head options for the Red Skull. This one, featuring Hugo Weaving, would probably get more time on my shelf. It is breathtaking. Hot Toys really has set a new standard.

1. Ben Kenobi - Mythos - Sideshow Collectibles

Company: Sideshow Collectibles
Release Date:  TBD
Price: TBD
Order: Sign up for the mythos news letter here
The look for Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi blends Ewan McGregor and Sir Alec Guinness. A perfect mix of actors as one becomes the other. What happened to Obi-Wan between Episodes 3 and 4? This piece gets the imagination running as the best Star Wars toys always did.
