Mania Box Office Report: Ranger Down (Mania.com)

While walking through the canyons of the mall on Saturday, I noticed something very foretelling of the box office results this weekend. Hot Topic had all their Lone Ranger items marked down to 50% off. WOW. It only been a few days since the film’s release and already they were looking to unload their edgy Disney attire.

As you already know by my headline, The Lone Ranger fell to the Minions this weekend. “Through its first five days, Despicable Me 2 earned an estimated $142.1 million. That's just ahead of Toy Story 3($141 million) for top five-day start ever for an animated movie”. - Ray Subers Box Office Mojo.

Ray Subers also reported that Despicable Me 2 is also on track to set the same numbers as Monsters University. What isn’t surprising is that Despicable Me 2 has already broke the original’s numbers in two. I find it funny that a studio famous for animated features, Disney, lost to an animated feature this weekend.

This week it all about the Kaiju and Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Good or bad I wonder how this will effect Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla remake.
