In a recent rant on Deadline.com about Hollywood not having original properties anymore, the site reported that Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall) has in fact dropped off from The Mummy relaunch. Universal has confirmed this fact so the relaunch of The Mummy is back into development hell.
The relaunch which started back in 1999 featuring Brendan Fraser grossed north of $1.25 billion worldwide. Now Deadline argues that The Mummy not being in Wiseman’s future is a good thing. I have to say that it is a good thing for The Mummy. Certainly Underworld has its cult following but the reboot of Total Recall was abysmal. Let us not forget that his next project is directing the TV pilot for Sleepy Hollow.
Th last thing we need is another rehash of Fraser’s Mummy Trilogy. In fact an old school horror movie with practical effects is more of what the audiences are crying out for. A good example of which is The Conjuring.
Sound off below Maniacs. Wiseman off The Mummy, a good thing or a bad thing?
