It was reported long ago that the original TV Flash, John Wesley Shipp, would appear on the new Flash series running towards The CW. Who Shipp would play was kept under wraps. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Shipp will in fact be playing The Flash’s (now played by Grant Gustin) father. He will be in the premiere episode and return throughout the series.
Shipp is better known for playing James Van Der Beek’s dad on Dawson’s Creek. However, true fans of The Flash know Shipp for playing Barry Allen aka The Flash on the 1990-1991 The Flash TV Series.
"Given his history with The Flash, Andrew[Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry's father and that was John Wesley Shipp," said executive producer Greg Berlanti. "He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot, and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes."
Synopsis: The Flash centers on Central City assistant police forensic investigator Barry Allen (Gustin) who visits Starling City to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. Through a freak accident, he is given the power of superspeed that transforms him into the fastest man alive.
The Flash arrives on Tuesday nights, the fall on The CW.
