When the final tallies were in, it turned out that Monday's estimates were off in at least one case: What had looked like a neck-and-neck race for 9th place between FINAL DESTINATION and HIGH FIDELITY turned out to be no contest, with DESTINATION easily taking the position and FIDELITY falling out of the Top 10 into 11th place. DESTINATION took in $3.5-million, bringing its toal to $38.21-million, while FIDELITY managed only $2.69-million.

Otherwise, there was little excitement at the box office, as far as science fiction, horror and fantasy were concerned. ROAD TO EL DORADO ended up in 5th place as predicted, with $6.17-million this week, pushing the total up to $33.05-million. AMERICAN PSYCHO made its debut in 7th with $4.9-million. AMERICAN BEAUTY fell out of the Top 10, landing in the #14 slot with $1.97-million, bringing its US gross to $124.71-million. The only other genre film to earn over a million dollars was FANTASIA 2000. The durable IMAX presentation, which will soon be spreading to other theatres, managed another $1.49-million; its total for its exclusive run to date is $42.48-million.
