There were few surprises when the final box office results were tallied. Three genre films retained slots in the Top 10, while BATTLEFIELD EARTH continued its precipitous plunge down the chart. As expected, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE edged out BIG MAMA'S HOUSE for the #1 position, earning $27-million, down 62% from the previous three-day frame but still over $1-million ahead of the Martin Lawrence comedy, which earned $25.66-million; with a cume of $130-million, MI2 is poised to pass GLADIATOR as the year's biggest success to date. Dropping to third was DINOSAUR, with $12.04-million, adding upt to $96.85-million so far. The last sci-fi, horror or fantasy film to earn a berth in the Top 10 was FREQUENCY, which added $2.02-million to its $37.79-cume. Meanwhile, BATTELFIELD EARTH dropped to the #22 slot, taking in only $205,745, an 81% decline from the previous week. The film's total after three weeks is a meager $20.87-million, and initial overseas engagements seem unlikely to reverse the trend.
