There were few surprises when the final tallies for the weekend's performance rolled in. As expected, Me, Myself, and Irene topped the chart, and Chicken Run came in 2nd, with $17.51-million. The other science fiction and fantasy films in the Top 10 were: Mission Impossible, in 6th place with $7.59-million; Titan A.E. in 7th place with $3.74-million; and Dinosaur in 9th place with $3.26-million.

The only other genre film to earn over $1-million at the box office was Fantasia 2000, which wound up in 13th place with $1.48-million. The animated film, which broke records in Imax engagements earlier in the year, has failed to perform well in wide release, and will return to Imax after finishing up its short run in general theatres.

Also of note: DreamWorks' The Road to El Dorado, widely seen as a box office disappointment after the blockbuster success of the studio's Prince of Egypt, passed the $50-million mark, making it one of the few non-Disney animated films ever to do so (others include Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, South Park, and Anastasia). Meanwhile, Fox's Titan A.E., sinking almost as fast as Battlefield Earth, will be lucky to get much past $20-million. This represents a tremendous disappointment for 20th Century Fox, which had tried to postion the $80-million film as an action-packed summer blockbuster; instead, the company will be closing their animation facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

Below is a list of the box office finals for the Top 10 grossing films, plus any additional science fiction, horror, and fantasy films to rank among the Top 60.
