Apparently missing 200 years of proof that witchcraft does not exist in the real world, the police department of Penryn, Pennsylvania refused to do their normal job of directing traffic at the local YMCA because the cops claimed the club is promoting witchcraft by holding HARRY POTTER readings for kids.

As Penryn Fire Police Capt. Robert Fichthorn told the Associated Press, "I don't feel right taking our children's minds and teaching them (witchcraft)... As long as we don't stand up, it won't stop. It's unfortunate that this is the way it has to be."

Push came to shove in the controversy when the police department refused to direct traffic for a YMCA sponsored triathlon. It is unclear how traffic will be directed for the event. YMCA's executive director, Michael Carr said he was considering hiring cops from outside the area to direct traffic.

No word on whether on not the police in Penryn have recently made any arrests for witchcraft, cattle rustling, or voodoo hexing.
