Popular author R.A. Lafferty dies at age 88 (Mania.com)

Fan favorite author R.A. Lafferty died on Monday, March 18th after a protracted illness. Born in 1914 in Neola, Idaho, Raphael Aloysius Lafferty never wrote a word of science fiction until he was in his 40's. He went on to write 20 novels and over 200 short stories, which were collected in at least 19 different volumes, before retiring in the early 80's.

Favorite novels of Lafferty's include SPACE CHANTEY, THE REEFS OF EARTH and THE DEVIL IS DEAD. In 1972, the writer won the esteemed HUGO award for his short story "Eurema's Dam" and in 1990 he was honored with the World Fantasy Life Achievement Award.

To fans everywhere, he will be sorely missed.
