Rainy days rule. I finally got around to opening up my Toys R Us-exclusive DRAGONBALL Z model kit.
This set includes four make-your-own figures. Apparently, these things are pretty much the norm over in Japan, but us lazy Americans are used to having our toys put together for us before we buy 'em. Anyway, for you folks keeping score at home, this funky set includes GOKU, PICCOLO, TIEN, and FUTURE TRUNKS.
Without boring you on the details, these suckers are an absolute hoot to put together. Just as the box claims, no pain or glue is required! All you need is a little bit of patience and the ability to follow directions. The basic body parts for all four are actually real similar, so once you build one, the rest get even easier. The neatest part of these guys is that when you're done, you put on their rubbery clothes (which help hide all the joints you just put together) and the figures look pretty damn cool. Heck, they're even pretty damn well articulated. I can only imagine how awesome it'd be if Marvel and DC got in on this fun so I could put together my own CAPTAIN AMERICA or BATMAN. (Hint hint.)
These figures are sold individually as well, so you don't need to shell out a lot of money if you just want to give something new a try. And hey, you don't even need to wait for a rainy day to give these a try. They'll do just as well on a grand ol' sunny one.
Conspiracy? Cover-up? Or just plain bad timing? Whatever the case, the truth is no longer out there, at least as far as Moore Action Collectibles is concerned. The toy company has cancelled its X-FILES action figures even before Wave 1 ships. Due to Fox's canceling of the TV show, M.A.C. just doesn't believe a market still exists to support the figures, so they've pulled the plug on Chris Carter's subversive characters. M.A.C. will spend its energy, however, continuing to put out figures on the popular BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL lines.
Cowabunga, dudes! Yep, those pizza-eating, gnarly talking turtles are back. What with all the '80s revivals like HE-MAN and G.I. JOE, it was only a matter of time before Playmates brought the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES back to toy life. Look for the first wave of all-new figures to hit in the spring featuring 5" figures of LEONARD, DONATELLO, MICHAELANGELO, RAPHAEL, SPLINTER, APRIL, SHREDDER and one o' those goofy FOOT SOLDIERS. Also look for a 12" line to hit in the spring, as well as a second wave of 5 inchers in the summer. More details to come!
