It's about time. For Marvel fans that grew up with the vast universe of characters that began with FANTASTIC FOUR #1 in 1961, there's a sense of history that is undeniable. It was therefore all the more crushing to long-time readers when the core Marvel titles started new numbering in the late '90s. Recently, the company began offering two numbers on every issue the current number and a faded alternate number based on the original system. With the release of FANTASTIC FOUR #500 in August, those two numbers were swapped and Marvelites rejoiced at the restoration of history. Now it's about to happen again with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #500.

But this is only the latest in a long line of important numerical milestones for the arachnid's primary title, so let's take a brief look back at the stories that helped to mark past anniversaries in the career of the wall-crawling adventurer:

#50 (July 1967) Featuring one of the series' most memorable covers of all time, this one sees Peter almost hanging up the webs. But don't fret, folks...

#100 (September 1971) Can you imagine Spidey with four extra arms? With Morbius the Living Vampire also in the picture, this was one bizarre centennial.
