October 1, 2001... Martin Campbell will direct, while Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will pen the script. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will server as producers on the film and help to oversee the development of the project. No actor has been set yet as the new Bond,
April 7, 2005... A spokesman for Daniel Craig told The Stateman that Craig is not going to be the next James Bond. This followed a story that was put out by The Sun claiming it was nearly a done deal for the actor to take over the role of Agent 007. The Statesman tried to get Eon Productions to confirm or deny the rumors but Eon refused to comment. [The Statesman]

September 11, 2005... Julian McMahon will not be the next 007. Per Moviehole's "indside" info, "McMahon's new reps blew the deal for him by demanding an outrageous amount of money; this foul-up was made even more embarrassing when it transpired that the contract on offer was not, in fact, an offer; it was the standard Bond deal memo that everyone meeting with the producers is required to sign." October 14, 2005... Sony Pictures has confirmed Daniel Craig will be the new James Bond. In typical 007 style, the actor rode up the River Thames on a power launch to a news conference, escorted by Royal Marines boats. He posed for pictures near the Tower Bridge. [CNN and Reuters]
January 16, 2006... The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Rose Byrne (TROY) will sign this week to star in CASINO ROYALE. Byrne would play Vesper Lynd. Per the story, "'All the actresses had to perform a bedroom scene with Daniel where Bond says he is leaving the service to be with Vesper Lynd. Barbara Broccoli was particularly impressed by Rose,' one insider said."
Then Sky Showbiz and some other sources are reporting that Thandie Newton is close to signing to be in the film. The reports are saying Mr. Bond himself, Daniel Craig, was "impressed" by Newton's audition. [News Limited, Sky Showbiz, and The Daily Telegraph]
February 16, 2006... Sony Pictures has (finally) cast Mads Mikkelsen to play Bond's nemesis Le Chiffre in CASINO ROYALE. In Fleming's book, James Bond matches wits with Le Chiffre while playing high-stakes baccarat. Chiffre, also known as the "Number" or the "Cipher," is a banker for terrorists and criminals with a penchant for torture. The character is rumored to have been inspired by British occultist Aleister Crowley. [Hollywood Reporter]
