Contains both parts of Slight Fever Syndrome in one great package!
A compilation of two previously released tapes, Slight Fever Syndrome is one of the lighter more humorous hentai titles that features mostly consensual situations and no tentacles.
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this disc in its original language of Japanese. Throughout the show, we didn't notice any issues with this audio track as it sounded pretty clear. It's mostly just dialogue and moans (and some rather good ones in the English track as well) which are center channel based. Some of the music makes good use of the full soundstage, but there's hardly anything here that's calling for any kind of directionality.
Unfortunately this disc falls under a small category of discs that really depend on your gear for how its going to look. On our HDTV setup with the component cabling, we got a lot of cross coloration on the screen. It was practically all over the character animation throughout the entire disc. But giving it a spin on our low end system with just a regular video cable and it doesn't show those problems (but it also looks considerably softer as well). Barring that problem however, the disc looks pretty good with only a few areas that looked soft and slightly pixellated.
The cover for this works good, presenting the usual lustful image of a schoolgirl in her uniform. Various pictures in photograph form lay in the background, and overall gives a good glimpse at the show. The back cover provides several more photograph style pictures and some color shots as well. The summaries for the shows are decent, though they both sound practically alike. The insert makes use of the pictures on the back to display the chapter listings while the reverse side is just boxart ads.
The menu system is very minimal here, as there's not much to do here beyond set up for the show and then watch it. Moving between the menus is nice and fast and everything works good.
There were no extras included on this disc.
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Slight Fever Syndrome is a fairly mediocre real-world hentai title. It's got some bits of comedy, some decent hentai situations, and some passable character animation.
The show revolves around Miss Mizuki, the newly hired nurse/counselor at a private junior college. She's there to help the college students deal with occasional issues and make sure they're all a-ok. But things are just a bit more intense here than she was probably expecting, when her first visitor is a young student who just blurts out that she wants Miss Mizuki to teach her how to masturbate.
The show then moves between teacher/teacher relationships that Mizuki helps out, to more students wanting some tender touches from the doctor and with another teacher who finds himself becoming interested in Mizuki. The show basically sets up some little bits between each of the acts to move things along. There's not a lot of depth here, but enough so to keep the story moving from scene to scene.
This is also a show worth checking out in both languages. The English version is almost trippy at times. Unfortunately, one of the first things they did in changing the dialogue (dramatically so at times) is to change the names. Miss Mizuki now becomes Miss Moore. Mr. Endo becomes Mr. Smith. Oh boy. There's also a lot of accents used here, with the strongest one being the southern girl. Especially when she informs her friends that she's slept with over a hundred other girls (a line that never appears in the sub). Of course, there's also lines in the sub that aren't dubbed at all and are just replaced with moaning.
Slight Fever Syndrome isn't a bad show, but it's done a bit on the cheap side for the animation. The comedy works better in the English side, but some of the changes are just annoying. This'd be a good rental for the desperate late night anime fan.
