The Review!
Well here it is! Belldandy fans rejoice! UK subtitle fans rejoice!

The disc I bought and watched was the Region 2 labelled version, released by MVM in the UK as opposed to the "pure" AnimEigo Region 1 release.

So how was it. Excellent! Not totally, but 95%, which is good enough for me.

Before this release folks living outside the US who were (and are), not into importing had only the dubbed PAL VHS version. Don't get me wrong, the dub is excellent. But it was good to have the sub version too.

So sub fans are happy. But the dub fans should be even happier than *they* were before. Not only is the video a great deal better, but one of the extras is a commentary by the director and cast of the dub version. Special edition stuff!

Another extra is dialogue-free soundtrack. Dub your own OMG, and take turns dubbing Urd!!

The menu is real eye-candy in it's own right, but maybe too much of a good thing. The whole introduction animation runs while you make your choice, then you watch it again with sound and credits. Here AnimEigo have given "angle" choice so die-hard Otakus can see the Japanese as well as English credits.

I'll leave the detailed plot exposition (and other details) to Chris in his review, but just mention that the first 3 episodes that are on this disc introduce all the characters i.e Keichi, Belldandy, Megumi, Urd and Skuld - in order of appearance. Also the motor club members and a few other students.

I watched the sub version, for the first time ever, and was impressed by how perfect the casting was for each part. I then thought how good the dub was, to reflect each character's original representation so well.

The Japanese seiiyus speak more softly, and I had to strain my ears when the background music peaked to hear the speech, but maybe it was just my TV/player combination (must try with headphones).

I thoroughly recommend this disc to all OMG/AMG fans, both for yourselves and to give as gifts. Also for screen capture and stills of Belldandy. It would have been nice to have a picture on the disc, but perhaps I'm just being greedy.

Thank you MVM/AnimEigo. Pioneer, the challenge has been made!
