What They Say
Three VERY adult fantasies... with lots of trolls and elf-abuse!
Meet Pink, a beautiful slave girl who makes the mistake of putting on the infamous Cursed Panties of Torajima and is transformed into a real sex kitten. Add a sultry elven sorceress who gets her powers from a very unexpected energy source and a mighty warrior who's big in every way imaginable, and you have all the ingredients necessary for a trilogy of the world's most dangerous villains of the Tajif forest!
Will Pink have to learn if she's really got nine lives the hard way?
One of the earliest hentai releases in the US, Dragon Pink almost feels more ecchi than really hentai by todays standards.
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this disc in its original language of Japanese. This release is also only in Japanese, so it wasnt a hard choice. The track features a pretty basic but decent stereo mix that doesnt do much in terms of directionality anywhere. Dialogue is nice and clear and the music and sound effects come across cleanly and without distortion. Its pretty much what youd expect from something of this age.
Originally released back in 1994, the animation for the show is pretty much on target for a hentai release of that day, which means theres some really good moments scattered throughout but otherwise it comes across as a standard show. The transfer for this release appears to have held up pretty well with little in the way of problems. Backgrounds manage to stay nice and solid during some of the trickier scenes, such as some of the fog and dusty looks that are done. Colors are nice and solid without being over saturated, but there is some cross coloration showing up around some of the character designs, noticeably around Pinks pink hair. There wasnt anything terribly distracting however.
This has to be one of the sexiest covers Ive seen in a long time, and one of the most honest marketing pieces Ive ever seen. With the line of Hot, Wet and Very Pink! next to the very sultry image of the lead female catgirl herself, the boxart is practically unzipping the viewers pants. This is a great looking cover. The back cover provides some choice shots of Pink again while also providing a few paragraphs about the show and the basic production information. The insert provides a great shot of Pink and Pierce together and the reverse side has another shot of Pink as well as the episode chapter stops.
The menu is a good static piece that has Pink and Pierce against each other while ringed with the episode selections and other access points. With no language menu and the only extra available from the main menu, things are quick to access and getting around is pretty easy. Some of the music from the show plays along in the main menu as well.
The only extra included here is a two and a half minute video gallery of production sketches and pieces from the show itself. Its not a bad gallery, but would have played out a bit better with some music. Theres some good pieces of sketch artwork in there that makes this good for those who are Dragon Pink fans, especially the ones that go from start to finish.
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Back in the day, Dragon Pink was one of my earlier hentai purchases. That was when each episode was on its own volume, and I never got past the first one. I found it cute, but my catgirl fetish hadnt quite kicked in yet. But now its many years later and I get to revisit a much higher quality version of the show to see what I missed.
Thankfully, the show has aged fairly well. While I made the comment above about it being more ecchi than anything else, thats not entirely accurate. Theres still plenty of sex going on through these episodes, and theres some mildly explicit stuff, its just not as outright detailed as the stuff you get today is. It also gets much more explicit as the episodes progress. Depending on how youve viewed adult materials over the course of your lifetime, this will mean its either nostalgic or annoying. For me, its nostalgic.
Dragon Pink is an amusing fantasy tale that originated as a manga but plays as if its a video game. During the opening and eye-catch sequences, it prompts to save to continue or quite the game outright, and during the episode various things will happen to cause the little box to come up with that will talk about hit points, magic spells and the like. Its definitely old-school RPG video game feel. The story itself centers around a group of adventurers who travel around to basically make money. The group is made up of a typical set of characters, but with the usual hentai twists. Pink is the catgirl slave of Santa, Santa being the strong warrior of the group. Hes not above using Pink to get the bounty, such as when he ties her up (Japanese style) and hangs her in the woods, waiting for a particular critter to come have its way with her, and then capturing it.
To complement these two, theres Bobo the very big and even stronger warrior who wields the axe and then theres Pierce, the elven magic user of the group who wears a very western-feeling super-hero outfit. Suffice to say, the women are showing off their cleavage all over the place. Pierce is amusing in that she tends to get her abilities boosted up when she has sex, and that seems to be one of Bobos main uses with the group. Each episode is nicely self-contained as the group goes off to do one adventure or another. And, contrary to the title, I spotted no dragons.
One of the things that keeps Dragon Pink as something a bit more of a standout compared to a lot of hentai that comes out these days is the old formula of having a story to go with the sex. You can easily see them marketing this show without the sex as a simple RPG/comedy OVA series. That gives the show some extra depth and a bit more to the characters as well. Dragon Pink was a pleasant show to spend a late night with, providing both plenty of good hentai sequences and some fun little fantasy adventure moments.
