What They Say
First, Wicked Trio, a 3-part erotic omnibus, takes a peek at an illicit affair, a fantasy world of very wild creatures, and a hedonistic S&M love triangle! Contains The Affair, Lust in Space, and S’extra Credit.
Then, The Naughty Professor will teach you a lesson you’ll never forget! Momone seems to be a model college professor, but beneath her goody-goody fašade hides a repressed masochist! And one of her college students knows exactly what she wants…
The Secret Anime Series returns with three shorts and one full length adventure with this release.
Since I’ve long since given up on hentai in English, we’re on the Japanese track for this release and it’s your typical stereo mix that’s mostly center channel based to begin with. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no issues with dropouts or distortions. The music makes use of the stereo channels somewhat, but not enough to really make it a standout in any way.
Though released back in 97 and 98, the animation here looks a few years older than that and the grainy transfer only helps push that feel. It’s not excessive but enough to be noticeable. Colors are good, but only a few are strong enough to stand out while the rest are fairly muted. There’s no cross coloration, which is a huge plus, but there is a few areas of bothersome aliasing that’s typical during some panning sequences.
The cover provides a shot of just one of the stories on the disc as opposed to some kind of collage, but they did provide the image from the longest of the four shows here. The cover is decent looking and definitely pushes the twisted aspect of the title. The back cover provides a bit more artwork from the other shows and a quick summary of what kind of shows are on the disc. The features and formats are all nice and clearly listed here as well. The reverse side of the cover, black and white as usual, has more artwork from the other shows and basic chapter listings. The shows production credits take up the other page.
The main menu is a decent piece that has various images from the show merging into a blocked out section where the selections are while part of the tribalistic music plays along. Moving to submenus is nice and easy and access times are fast as there are no transitional animations.
The only real extra included here is a brief minute plus video art gallery that shows off both shots from the shows themselves as well as some of the original box artwork and other original pieces scattered throughout.
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Twisted Tales of Tokyo continues the Secret Anima series but on a smaller scale with shorter stories mixed into the short releases themselves. More bang for your buck, but far less story, which to me makes them far less enjoyable.
The first show opens up with The Affair, a rather minimal dialogue piece where the main thrust of the show is watching a young woman with an older man as she continually refers to him as papa in the Japanese track, but is often translated as honey in the subtitles. The actual relationship between the two doesn’t seem to be really fleshed out, as it seems like it may be something the two are playing at as some of the later dialogue throws doubts about them actually being related to each other. With a short running time of just over ten minutes, there’s really not much here beyond the simple action. The artwork is ok, but nothing terribly exciting, nor are the sequences.
Lust in Space is a painful little clip that has more static animation moving about than I’ve seen in a hentai for awhile. It’s an odd quick little sorta science fiction piece where one of the women gets caught up inside the tentacles of another female beast, and there’s lots of poor sex, groping and fighting. It was over so fast that in the end the fact that it made little sense probably only helped it.
S’extra Credit is fairly average if that. The feature has a young woman who’s tutoring Ma-kun waiting at his house for him to arrive, only for another older woman to arrive. She’s apparently dating Ma-kun and dislikes to some extent that her tutoring is keeping him from her. So she proceeds to them seduce the young tutor while the tutor has visions of Ma-kun with the other woman. The scenes go back and forth between the two women and Ma-kun and his girlfriend. This is arguably the best show of this trio, but that’s damning it with faint praise.
Professor Momone is the focus of the full length Secret Anime episode entitled The Naughty Professor. Poor Momone has the problem of being an attractive young female teacher. Never mind that she has dreams about some of her male students, but the students obviously lust after her. There’s some rivalries going on as some of the female students dislike how the most popular guys seem to just want her. So when one of the darker and rougher popular boys ends up actually doing things to her, things hit the fan among the other guys.
After Hino teases her at school in various ways, he ends up at her door later that night. And she, just in a top and panties, foolishly lets him in. What happens? Well, it’s pretty obvious that rough boy Hino ends up dominating her and just being forceful in voice alone to get her to do what he wants. After that event, it’s all downhill for Momone as Hino manipulates her before and during school now, to the point of having her go nude for an “art” class that turns into anything but. From there, it turns into a show where all the guys get a turn and Momone gets even more and more into it.
Twisted Tales of Tokyo hasn’t helped show me the Secret Anima series is going to be the next big thing. Some of their stuff is mildly interesting, but there’s been nothing that screams out like a lot of other series do.
