What They Say
Leading a full orchestra ensemble, Evangelion maestro Shiro Sagisu has created another rich, rewarding listening experience for EVA fans with "Neon Genesis Evangelion Original Soundtrack II." There are 25 striking tracks that lend an aura of adrenaline-charged anxiety, unbridled exhilaration, impending dread, and calm, dream-like passages, many of which are the signature music pieces found in some of the most memorable scenes in Evangelion.
In addition to the instrumentals, there are seven great vocal songs, including 'A Cruel Angel's Thesis' (the TV size opening song), 'A Vision,' 'Fly Me to the Moon' (the TV size closing song), and four alternate versions of the ending song. Another essential CD for all EVA fans!
4 out of 5
Music found in Neon Genesis Evangelion.
This CD comes with a 10-page insert. The first page is a series of small pictures of the main characters. Secondly is the song title list. The next two pages are lyric pages for two of the vocals in both English and Japanese. The next two pages show pictures of two angels complete with notes from the creator. The next two pages sport pictures of Rei and lyrics to Fly Me to the Moon, English. Lastly on page 9 is an excerpt from producer Kyoko Kobayashi. And the very last page is the credits for the CD as well as the series.
With great vocals by Yoko Takahashi, best known for her varied theme songs including Lost Paradise from Macross Generation (a duet with Ogata Megumi), this one is a definite hit. And let?s not forget the great CLAIRE and her version of Fly Me To the Moon. I only wish that I could find more of CLAIRE, but she seems to have jumped into the Eva soundtrack with a great set of pipes and then disappeared. Her soulful rendition of Fly Me to the Moon, just left me with shivers, it was a beautiful tribute to the great Frank Sinatra, and I think even he would be proud of how well CLAIRE treated his song. These vocals are great. The background music is just a touching movement, and the top-notch voices are unbeatable.
Shiro Sagisu, whom you may remember was a composer/arranger for the Nadia soundtracks, has created a beautiful world of sound with this CD. The moving instrumentals are a true showing of Mr. Sagisu?s work. He has always been one of the better composers, having the ability to give each instrument their own life within each composition. The pieces played are simply flowing in their movement from one emotion to another. It is a true representation of what a good composer can do with a little imagination.
The music itself is a great blend and use of instruments. The instrumentals have managed to stay lively and riveting with not a stale one in the bunch.
My biggest beef about this CD, is how many times can you hear Fly Me to the Moon, before you have to hurt someone? There are just too many versions of this song on this one CD alone, not to mention any others that may arise.
I?d have to say a burst of beauty.
