What They Say
Akuji and his clan successfully entered into Eden, but were split up by Ihabella's strategy. Kikuko, who was a captive, appeared in front of Motoko and Yoko, and Ihabella's cyborg humans attacked the rest of Akuji's clan. They had no chance against the incredible strength the cyborgs possessed. In the meantime, Akuji succumb to Siadhatra, who had been begging him for his semen for so long. Little did he know, that he was about to pull the trigger of destruction. Will Akuji and his clan be able to defeat Ihabella's ambition and unify Osaka ?
The main storyline comes to a close with this volume and while it is fairly anticlimactic in a few ways it does hit up a few necessary areas and sets things up for a special episode follow-up.
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. This is also the only language available on this release as no English language version was made for it. The Japanese track is a pretty straightforward stereo mix that does have some good moments of directionality, more often in the fight scenes than anywhere else, and the music does a nice job of giving a full feeling performance. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.
Originally released to video in 2003, the transfer for this OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. With a lot of really bold colors in large sections, there's no noticeable blocking going on and that's the major problem that this release could have had but avoids. Cross coloration and aliasing are just about non-existent and overall this is a really sweet looking transfer. While some of the earlier volumes some serious dot crawl problems, this volume looks almost pristine by comparison and really shines here like the first volume did for us. The opening and ending sequences are retained in their original Japanese text format, most likely as hentai releases don't usually have clean versions to offer up. They're not translated directly but are done following the show.
The cover for this looks a bit strange mostly due to Siadharta's position as she's sort of laying there and has all the gear on her arms which only looks more strange when you add in the stark white background and the bits of green floating lights. The character design is one of the weaker ones of the series and is often confused with Akuji's aunt as well. The back cover has a lot of artwork and shots from the show on it, enough that it takes up about two-thirds of it. The bottom third has a small summary and a list of the discs features. There's a small technical grid along the bottom that's clear on the features and overall it's easy to see exactly what's on the disc between the two sections. There's no insert with this release but the cover is reversible. The reverse side front cover uses another shot of Siadharta all dressed up and with some highly amusing headgear while the back cover has a different series of screenshots used for it while everything else remains the same.
It's been some time between releases and Adult Source Media has done some much better menus in the duration and it shows here with a nice split screen that has a slightly active picture of Siadharta on the left while the right side has the selections with clips of animation playing along the bottom. It's a touch busy in some ways but it's far better than their old menus by a long shot. The one downside to the new layout is that they've gone and used a shortened version of the opening music instead of the full length piece which is probably something in their authoring software.
While past volumes had no extras, this one contains some DVD-ROM content on it in the form of a couple of official wallpapers. Also included, though I'm always really hesitant to call it an extra, is another of the really cheesy extra feature episodes that looks like it was done with an 80's paint program and barely animated. Some are subtitled but this one is another that is not subtitled..

Daiakuji's been a fun series overall and one of those Green Bunny shows that really messes around with the characters and settings to try and do something different. With this one being based on a video game they had plenty of material to work with but at the same time it's felt like the plot has been really helter-skelter as its progressed. While the fifth episode certainly made things feel like they were going towards a finale, the end does arrive in what seems far too fast a pace.
There are a few areas that get hit upon during the last episode and they manage to provide for some decent sex, a good bit of humor and some minor action in order to tie up some of the loose ends. While the various girls go through a couple of different sexual fight scenes where they have to deal with the enemy and their evil ways, Akuji gets some of the main focus as he deals with Siadharta right off. This is actually really amusing since she's a complete Lolita type to begin with and when he actually does start having sex with her, she's as lifeless as possible about it. When he complains about her lack of reaction or noise, she starts sounding off with moaning sounds like she's reciting the alphabet and just picks up the pace till it fills up the screen. Her reactions and his reaction to it is hilarious.
Akuji also gets an interesting blast from the past as Minka shows up after we thought she was dead not long ago. Her time since ending up in the ocean hasn't been pleasant though. While she's physically in good shape, at least outwardly, she was picked up by an Ouima man who kept her to be abused, raped and shaped into what he wanted quite excessively. There's an interesting struggle as she's no longer who she was and she's got something of an agenda here but Akuji has a difficult enough time dealing with it. Much can be said of the far bigger problem that they all run into when Siadharta finally gets what she wanted ("freshy fresh!") and Ihabarra lets her final plan go into overdrive. They sort of dropped the ball in a way by having a ten story tall version of Siadharta but not do anything sexual at all with her.
While I've enjoyed the series overall even with its uneven nature, this final episode left me feeling a bit cold towards it all, particularly considering the distance between volumes. It may be the kind of episode that plays out better having watched the previous episodes much closer in sequence. The show does end on a well enough note for some of the material, but a lot of it just feels like it went untouched. Then again, there's always room for sequels since the show did rather well and they've got a special afterwards. There's a lot to cover in this episode and it simply could have used more time and a bit more sex.
