What They Say
After losing her mother, Chiaki, a middle school student, has her hands full taking care of housework and her younger brother Fuyuki. One day, when their father leaves the house for several days to go on a business trip, Chiaki hears something strange from Fuyuki: a white-clad shinigami with a black cat came over to their house.

These words cause a bad premonition to stir in the back of Chiaki's mind, because her mother described the exact same shinigami before she died..

The Review!
Momo and Daniel go baby sitting!

Content:: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)

Ballad of the Shinigami's forth episode is a return to form as far as I am concerned. The story this time is about Chiaki and her family. Her Mother passed away some time ago and she has taken on her role within the house. She looks after her younger brother Fuyuki and her father all by herself, each morning she cooks them breakfast and also does the food shopping as both them seem rather unreliable with that sort of thing.

When her father leaves for a business trip Chiaki asks that she be able to take care of things while he is away instead of having their grandmother come as she is still upset by the death of her daughter. That night Fuyuki says he has met a white shinigami and her cat, much to the horror of Chiaki as this is exactly what her mother said before she died.

Chiaki becomes more protective of her little brother so much so that she doesn't look after herself and gets a cold a fever. Momo and Daniel eventually show up but only to help baby sit while Chiaki gets some rest as her mother still has lingering regrets about her children. This is where the episode takes a real upswing in the fun department, Daniel is just adorable as baby sitter to Fuyuki, all scenes involving these two put a smile on my face and Daniel is becoming my favourite character of the piece.

This episode was a lot more fun then I had expected, the animation still hasn't taken a dip in quality and the music is great throughout. I hadn't commented on the opening and closings songs before but after listening to them a few times they are definitely growing on me with memorable melodies and sung with great emotion by Koy. While last episode was boring from my point of view this episode was exactly what Momo said it would be; a heart warming tale of a white shinigami.

In Summary:
I'm still unsure where this series is going but for the most part I am getting use to the ride. At first I thought this would be a depressing series about death but it is definitely becoming something that makes me smile. There are certain patterns emerging though with each episode so far showing the beginning of a relationship between the main characters and an overall sense of sweetness but I still I found it hard not to like anything that happened in this episode and I look forward to the next.
