The Review!
Celebrating their tenth anniversary, ADV has completed releasing their first title's series onto DVD. I will note that my copy came with the extra ADV catalog disc.

Both English and Japanese language tracks are presented in Dolby Digital 2.0, both sounding really good. I didn't notice any problems on my set-up, it's just crisp and clear just as the audio was on volume 1.

All three episodes are on one dual-layered disc, and all of them look good. With the exception of scenes from episode 1 which were on a few of the music videos in episode 4, the video had no rainbows at all, and with only the darker scenes, there is little artifacting.

ADV does great in the packaging department. The cover features the same artwork used for VHS volume 5, with slight changes made, including the new logo. The spine features a shot of Yohko charging with her sword, and the back features numerous shots from the show itself. It also lists disc info and extras. The insert features the same cover artwork, and the back lists DVD extras and ADV Previews presented on the disc - which is actually not on the disc. Next printings, which will not include the extra disc, may have ADV previews added onto the disc (the same previews listed were on volume 1 - so no big deal, and with a disc full of trailers, who cares?). The extra disc features Yohko, of course (ADV's "baby"?).

The menus are quite alike with the menus for volume 1, except the background color is green. The main menu features the same shot of Yohko from the front cover, listing "Episode 5, Episode 6, 4-Ever!, Scene Selections, Languages, and Extras". Music, identical the tracks used in volume 1, are used here too. The scene menu features a shot of Yohko and her "twin", Ayoko, with clips playing for each episode around them. The 4-Ever menu is done differently, as each music video has its own chapter, so the clip windows are smaller and longer. The Language menu is identical to the one in disc 2 of volume 1, except with a shot of Yohko, which was on the cover for the dubbed episode 6 VHS. The extras menu has a shot of Yohko in a kimono (from episode 3) with listings for the extras presented on the disc. The menus were all nice, and easily navigated.

Not many extras are included here, but the ones found are nice to have. First are the credit-less closings for episodes 5 and 6, each having decently fun animation, is great to have without credits overlapping them. The other extra is the original ADV trailers for episode 5 and episode 6 (episode 6 having three different versions). Spiffy.

The last three episodes are included on this disc. After watching episode 6, I really hope this series may be continued one of thee days.

Now episode 4 is really only a music video collection, so there's not much to say about it. It has seven music videos, though. All fun to watch. Two are live-action, and the rest had scenes from the first three episodes, and even a cute Chibi-Yohko and a Chibi-Azusa. Most of the songs are closings for the first three episodes, so there are really only two "original" songs, including the "Full Moonlight" song, which has a different video for this collection (and is extended to full length).

In episode 5, Madoka, finally returning to the story, senses the approach of an old nemisis of the Devil Hunters, and warns her grand-daughter Yohko, who doesn't really listens since she's thinking of her new love interest, an exchange student (I guess they really did drop Hideki...). The new demon is able to control time, and now that his power has been released, he is free to destroy the Earth. Now it's up to Yohko, Azusa, Haruka, the first Devil Hunter, and a strangely younger Madoka, to defeat this menance.

In episode 6, a mysterious female fighter, looking a lot like Yohko, is training fiercely with her partner, who looks a lot like Azusa, to battle for the title of the 108th Devil Hunter. Unknown to this, Yohko continues her normal life, except without her friend, Azusa, around to help out. Yohko falls in love with her new teacher, but rumors begin that Yohko is already dating him. Yohko spies on her teacher one night to meet Ayoko, Yohko's arch-rival. While Yohko is still unsure why Ayoko wants to defeat her in battle, she tries her best not to be beaten. But Yohko's teacher also hides a secret. Can Yohko defeat her look-a-like AND battle this new, enourmously powerful demon?

And so ends this series of original video animations (or the other way around). The stories for episodes 4 and 5 are very good, and with two hours of Yohko, plus a disc dedicated to ADV's DVD catalog, who could NOT resist to pick this title up?

AND NOW, for something different. Abe's Mini-Review for ADV's DVD Catalog!
The extra disc is a VERY nice piece to have. We have about 80 trailers for ADV's titles here, along with the first episode of Excel Saga (English with Sign Subtitles), and the first episode of Steel Angel Kurumi (English with Sign Subtitles).

We are also treated to some of ADV's DVD extras. A very humorous clip from Burn-Up Excess featuring about 10 jiggles within 15 seconds is hilarous. A clip from Excel Saga episode 1 with AD Vid-Notes on is also here, and so is Princess Nine's "Ode to Oden" cooking show. A clip of one of ADV's live-action titles with audio commentary on is also included, for fans of the show.
Title information is shown for probably ALL of ADV's DVD titles, and a good thing to see that "Dragon Half" will be making its way to DVD soon, is great to know. So, if you happen to get a copy of Yohko volume 2 with a double-keepcase, you're in luck, as some catalog/trailer goodness is now in your hands.

Happy 10th Anniversary ADV.
