What They Say
Shuro and Isaac are brothers who were created in a terrifying genetic engineering experiment. But now they're at war. Shuro wants to live with humankind, while Isaac's rage is sending him on a murderous rampage. Can Shuro stop Isaac before the world is plunged into chaos?
The tenderness and caring that has developed between Shuro and Mine becomes rage and terror for Eternal Sabbath's twinned couple, Isaac and Yuri.
The tension and the horror that closed out the previous volume is unrelenting in the opening of this one. Isaac, who as acted out of his own personal anguish and anger at Yuri's mother, is truly surprised and stunned at Yuri's reaction to what he has ostensibly done for her. This response is seen as a betrayal by Isaac. Mine, fearing for Yuri's safety, is powerless to stop Isaac's retribution.
Sakaki san, who had obtained a sample of Isaac's DNA at the Isaac's hospitalization depicted in volume four, has found the flaw in Isaac that Mine has postulated might exist. This imperfection is a fatal one and Shuro, Mina and Sakaki race to confront Isaac before he can act on the implications. Shuro has always been ready to act even with Mine's reservations, but can Mine overcome her desire to rescue Isaac to do what may have to be done? Will her inhibitions force Sasaki san's observations that close out the volume to become prophetic?
Fuyumi Soryo is starting the close of her well-spun tale of nature vs. nurture and the quest to realize living as fully human. She has "finished" her characters. Eternal Sabbath, so expressive of internal states, must now focus on external danger, and take these newly developed beings into a fight for human existence.
