Jyubei’s training of the Hori women continues with the same brutal edge with which it began. These scenes possess the potential to bore the reader if it weren’t for the girls development. Their anger has been tempered some and with every day, the girls realize just how much skill Jyubei wields. Even the hot-tempered Ofue admits that she was wrong to ever question his methods. However, even with all their advancements, the Hori women have only killed one Spear of Aizu.
On the other side of the battlements are gathered the frustrated Spears of Aizu. Akinari continues to slip deeper into madness as he spends his time corrupting, torturing, and killing the women of his ‘Flower Pit’. The loss of one of his Spears to the Hori women only increases Akinari’s anger and threats towards his subordinates. The Spears of Aizu eventually make some headway in their search for the Hori women when they learn the Hannya Mask (Jyubei) is assisting them. Granted, it costs the life of another Spear, but at least now they can formulate a plan. With Akinari’s consent, the Spears disguise themselves in hannya masks and kidnap wealthy betrothed couples. The women will go to Akinari’s Flower Pit and the men, after being stripped naked and killed, will be lain before the front gates of Lady Tenjuin’s palace. All of this in hopes of drawing Jyubei into the open.
Jyubei’s skill and wily tactics continue to entertain in this volume. The writing also continues at a steady pace, progressing the skills of the girls while sprinkling in just enough character development or counter tactics between the two factions. While Jyubei is very skilled, he has still been unable to explain to the girls their best tactic for success against the Spears. Seduction is the only way the girls will be able to get close enough to catch the Spears unawares. Sure, they can probably take out another one or two spears by ganging up on them, but with heavy losses to their own side.
I recommend this series for all Manly Men that need some boobs with their bloodletting.
