According to the Hollywood Reporter, Producers Roger Corman and John Davison said Tuesday that they will make Space 3001, a $20 million sci-fi action picture, with Irish government subsidies.

The deal, announced at the American Film Market, will see Corman and Davison finance the production through their respective companies, New Horizons and Cowboy Outfit Llc., in conjunction with the Dublin-based Merlin Film Fund headed by Kieran Corrigan.

Davison, who got his start in the industry at Corman's previous company, New World Pictures, where he produced "Grand Theft Auto," said, "It's taken 30 years, but now I'm getting equal billing with Roger."

Arthur C. Clarke wrote a sequel to 2001: A space oddisey (actually it's the fourth book on the series) called "3001: The Final Odissey".
I don't think anyone would let Corman touch Clarke's material (even though I love Corman movies), but it gave me the feeling that it's inspired in that book.

Well, if it's Corman, it's *got* to be good.

Great. More absolute crap subsidized by the Irish government. I'm laughing.

20 million doesn't buy a lot of movie these days. Expect an entire movie set in 1 spaceship/space station (read: 1 suite of sets), a lot of shaky camera, and some shoddy CGI effects.

But it's Corman, so who knows-- he's the master at wringing every last cent out of every budget dollar. Here's to hoping.
