Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster Inception.

The director stated, "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again."

Heading the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

Misdirection Misdirection Misdirection.......that is all I can read into with these explanations on who the characheters they will be portraying.  I will wait until the camera's start to roll and see whom these actors are really playing.  I can't wait for this film.  Mind you this summer's movies will help pass the time.

Guess all the talk about them playing villains was bogus.  Unless Bryzarro is right and this is misdirection.  But this seems pretty official rather than just rumors so I'm thinking these are the characters they will play.

July 20th seems like a rather late time in the summer for what will probably be the biggest release. I wonder why they did that? Anyway, I cant wait for this to get here so that we can kiss this trilogy good-bye and maybe, just maybe, get on with a more faithful adaption.

It's about the same weekend that both Begins and TDK were released and it didn't hurt them.

This here is just Nolan throwing a bone to his people. Nothing wrong with that. He did the same with Murphy on TDK, just a cameo enough for a paycheck.

Glad its been finally reported what characters they'll play so the constant guessing can stop (myself included). I am surprised by the characters but thats whats so great about Nolan, keeps us on our toes. So looking forward to this, cant wait!

Defintely, misdirection.  The rumors are very much in line with this.  Remember, Liam Neeson was officailly announced as Henri Ducard...

@jfdavis - Agree with you totally. I definately think that Cotollard will be playing Talia in the movie. and that 'Marinda Tate' will be her cover and we will find out towards the end that she's been behind Catwoman and Bane all along. I can't wait for this movie to come out. Everything else is just an appetizer till this movie hits the screen.

ripum853 4/20/2011 8:47:12 AM

I'm also thinking that she'll end up being Talia near the end of the film.  We'll see, Can't Wait!!!

btw, I prefer Nolan's universe than a more faithful version because then we'd most likely be stuck with Robin, batgirl, and the other scrap friends that most people don't care about.  I'm honestly not a fan of JLA neither, so at least I'm spared from them for the time being, even if it means that I don't get to see cool Batman villains like Croc, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, etc.

BunyonSnipe 4/20/2011 10:09:25 AM

HAHAHAHAHA, aren't you on the wrong website, rip?

You DO have a good point though, Robin is one of those characters that just wouldn't work in a live action film series, a TV serie maybe but when films are made three or more years aprt, it's lunacy, in the first movie he's a kid, fine by the third movie he...

Oh. Nightwing? NO!
