Super Bowl comic book movie trailers anticipation is high and Jon Favreau is getting out ahead of the game a bit after a tweet that alerted folks that the trailer is starting to pop up for his big Cowboys & Aliens flick this summer. Based on the comic series of the same name, it's got some solid back to it with Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci in the production process while out in front we've got Daniel Crag, Harrison Ford and the very hot property among genre fans with Olivia Wilde. Unfortunately, the spot is pretty short, clocking in at just 31 seconds, but it does offer up a fair bit of new material to be seen.

Plot summary: 1875. New Mexico Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

I think this is gonna be a sweet. Also can't wait to see the Transformers trailer. I really hope both of these movies don't suck a big one

Looks like a good movie.  I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not sure about this one.  Interesting mix of genres.

I love the mixing of genres plus I love both genres individually on top. But I must admit that none of what I've seen has made me really stand up and take notice. It just looks like a so-so film. I hope I'm wrong, someone needs to make amends for the travesty that was Wild Wild West and give us renewed hope for this sub-genre

I actually would like to see a horror/western done right.  The best film to achieve this was The Burrowers.  I'll admit, aliens don't not appeal to me as much as the supernatural.

The movie actually looks better than the graphic novel. I read it and wasn't that impressed by it. I like what Jon Favreau has done with the film adaptation.

Wiseguy: Don't forget Jonah Hex, too.

Krath you're right but believe it or not I've yet to watch that particular train wreck so I often forget to mention it.

Cap got me excited.  Cowboys and Aliens...meh.  I didn't even know it was based on a graphic novel.

Yeah... this looks awesome!  I love it when they take westerns and turn them into action extravaganzas!  They don't seem to do it enough.
