I think kids will like movies designed for ages other than their own.  As I grew up I started liking more mature material but I never stopped loving Winnie The Pooh.

Great kids movies:  Kung Fu Panda.  How to Train Your Dragon.  All Pixar movies.  Madagascar.  Ect.

The Smurfs is crap next to these.  Sorry, but it is true.  They could have made a good Smurfs movie and we might have gone to see it.  But the movie they made is an undeniable steaming pile of crap.

NEWS FLASH... SMURFS IS FOR KIDS - YOUNG KIDS.

Parents will forego seeing a movie they'd like to watch for one their kids want to see. That also means TWO tickets (at least) instead of just one, meaning more money, hence a kids movie doing better than a PG-13 one.

Axia... if people here are saying they were in theatres full of children (including their own) laughing and talking about how great it was - what you say isn't true. To you, an adult it's true, but not to the young demographic to which the movie was made.

BTW - I don't remember my parents sitting in front of the TV on Saturday mornings to be sure they didn't miss The Smurfs.

My kids never saw Smurfs movie yet, but every time a trailer came on TV they really didn't give a rats ass about it FYI.  And they're 3 and 5.  My 3 year old fell asleep during Cars 2...so did I.  But I agree with Axia.  The movies he mentioned are top notch...along with Despicable Me.

Sorry people, but crap is crap even if little kids like it.  Even if millions of people like a thing and it is crap it is still crap.  Pet Rocks.  Lady Gaga.  The list is long.  Crap is always going to be crap.

@Higgy - Yeah!  Despicable Me was a great kids movie.  Great stuff.
