This big screen treatment of the DC comic book, SGT ROCK, has been sitting around collecting dust in development hell for a long time. How long? Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to portray the character before his bid to become governor of California. Both this project and the KING CONAN project were put on hold after he won the bid and studio Warner Bros. and screenplay writer John Cox had to go a different direction.

The early drafts of the screenplay explaining the character being from Eastern European heritage have now been scrapped and according to IGN, John Cox has turned in a new finished screeplay for SGT. ROCK to Warner Bros.

Cox informed IGN that Schwarzenegger is no longer attached to the project, and that the script was not written with any specific actor in mind. Certain actors have been discussed for the role and producer Joel Silver is said to be moving on that front. The project is currently out to actors and directors.

Thanks to scooper "Daforce" for the headsup.

so Arnold's big and buff, so that qualifies him to play Sgt Rock? no.
Sgt Rock should be from the United States, he's represending OUR country after all, and the men of Easy Co... well from what I remember, they were from all over... but I most liked the guy that had the long orange hair... he was kinda like a huge Viking I think. (Gunner?)
I always followed Sgt Rock, Creature Commandos, Weird War Tales, Unknown Soldier, Men Of War and some of the others... but those were the big ones... I still have my entire collection too!

...Uh, it's not too late to cast Bruce Willis as Sgt. Rock, is it?

It's just a suggestion, unless anyone can think of someone else? And, please...No Matt Damon or Ben Affleck ha ha ha ha

Jason Statham and Hugh Jackman spring to mind. And no it's not to late for Bruce Willis, remember The Big Red One. Lee Marvin was even older than Willis is now when he did that movie, it one of his last and best performances.

How 'bout Mickey Rourke for Sgt. Rock, loved his look in Sin City. And he's definitly got the attitude and acting ability.
