A week after screenwriter Kevin Williamson confirmed he's working on a new Scream trilogy centered around Gale and Dewey (Courteney Cox Arquette & David Arquette), another update of sorts has crossed the wires.

The guys over at ComingSoon have passed along news that Scream director Wes Craven has known about the plans and has had discussions with Williamson in its development stages.

While talking to Simon Reynolds at Digital Spy on the remake of his classic horror film The Last House on the Left, director Craven answered a few questions on the status of these newly confirmed sequels. In the brief interview, he confirmed that he's interested but will need to see the script before he agrees to returning behind the camera. He also confirms per discussions with the screenwriter that the story will center around Courteney and David's characters. It's unlikely we'll see returns of the other original stars.

They need to bring back Neve Cambell, just to give her some work. I wouldn't mind seeing some more of these. I always enjoy them. They are fun movies, and I think Courtney and David worked very well together.

Scream like everything else has kept on sucking as more sequels go.  Kevin Williamson's last movie was Cursed.

Let's hope & pray Scream 4 ain't nothing like that.

"It's unlikely we'll see returns of the other original stars."  That must be because Neve Campbell's career is flying along SOOO well.  Is she even still alive?  PLEASE tell me she just happened to slip into doing porn, a la a mid-'90s Alyssa Milano.

Cursed did suck.  We didn't even get to see Christina Ricci naked, which would have at least made the rental cost worthwhile.

The first Scream was good.  The second was a decent sequel, but just a rehash.  The third was a complete photocopy, unoriginal, and didn't even justify itself with some sort of attempted wink-and-nod to the audience admitting its own ridiculousness.  I won't waste money on a 4th.

I would really enjoy a new scream sequel........and yes I think that if they were to bring back the old cast that would help make more money  because I mean look at how good Fast and Furious did with the old cast......but Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven can deliver a hit they transformed the horror genre with the first scream....so we shall see ..........

I just got done rewatching the first Scream movie. The key is keeping the horror vs comedy ratio at like 80-20. Even when the horror isnt prevelant there needs to be a steady stream of tension thats broken up very sparsely by small elements of comedy. When the ratio is out of whack you loose the potency of the original.

The first Scream wasn't that good in the first place. It was the most overrated horror movie I have ever seen and then people started copying it with Halloween H2O and I Know What You Did Last Summer.   I didn't even bother with the sequels.

The first Scream was a satire of slasher movies, the second one satirized slasher sequels, and the third satirized slasher trilogies.

IMO, they should produce a remake/reboot of the original Scream, satirizing the horror movie industry's current trend of remaking any and every horror film ever made. Recast it with some young, attractive actors from the CW network, overuse CGI effects (when conventional effects would do), make a couple alterations guaranteed to piss off fans of the original, and make sure it's toned down to a PG-13.

They could follow that with a prequel, then round out the trilogy by producing a gratuitous 3D movie.
