Mark Millar on KICK-ASS Sequel

MTV Splash Page chatted up Mark Millar about his self-pre-ordained hit 'Kick-Ass' and the inevitable sequel.

"We don't want to sound too cocky, but we know this is good," Millar told MTV (and its a good thing he's avoiding sounding cocky). "It didn't cost that much money to make. There will definitely be another one."

The movie opens April 13. Millar said that he knows where the sequel goes, and the direction is suggested in both the comics and the film version.

"There's a basic plot. The series ends on a teaser for the next one, and the movie ends on that teaser, too."

What do you think, Maniacs? Do you already love Kick-Ass? Are you already clamoring for the sequel? Post your comments below...

Megan Fox vs TRANSFORMERS - Rounds 2 and 3

Megan Fox has made a public response to the scathing critical letter that appeared on MichaleBay.com on Saturday. The letter purportedly came from three crew members who took umbrage with Fox publicly calling Bay a "Hitler" in a magazine interview. Some suspect that Bay himself orchestrated the letter, even though he later denounced it.

Fox made her response exclusively to EW.com and kept is short and even-handed. "I have spoken with the parties involved privately," Fox said in a statement, via her publicist. "I am very fortunate to be involved in this amazing franchise and look forward to 'Transformers 3'."

Fox also received support from one Anthony Steinhart, a production assistant on the autobot films. Steinhart has issued his own open letter (with enough conviction to sign his own name to it) defending the actress.

First of all, I would like people to know (for those who are interested) the reason why I am writing this letter is to clear my name in any of this Ms. Fox bashing. As someone pointed out in one of the responses, you could narrow down the list of potential writers of the letter by looking on IMDB. I have received a few phone calls from people who have read the letter and they know that I have worked closely with the actors/actresses on the film, so I felt I should at least clear my name.

My name is Anthony Steinhart and I have worked on both Transformers movies and have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Fox.

I read the letter by the three unnamed crew people and was blown away by their description of Ms. Fox. Especially, since I am the one usually getting Ms. Fox at her trailer. I have personally never been nor ever witnessed Ms. Fox being rude or inconsiderate of people’s feelings or the work to be done. Everyone is entitled to their good days and bad. Contrary to popular belief, she is like us (human) and has both good and bad days as well. Working on the Transformers movies can be intense at times and sometimes intense situations cause intense moments.

Some of the examples the three unnamed writers give as evidence of Ms. Fox and her horrible attitude are so ridiculous.

It’s unfortunate the grip didn’t want to bring his daughter to set because Megan Fox wasn’t nice and not the fact that we had a closed to set. No visitors unless approved by the UPM [unit production manager]. That is what the call sheets have always said. By the way, Ms. Fox wished my 12-year-old brother a happy birthday over the phone while we were shooting in New Mexico. Not so heartless…

It’s also unfortunate that she didn’t attend any of the “15” parties, but I clearly remember her hanging out in New Mexico with some of the crew and watching her get hounded by passers-by as she walked through the hotel lobby and being nothing but gracious to her fans. Also isn’t it refreshing to hear that she doesn’t need to be a part of the party machine that sometimes swallows people whole, only to spit them out on the front page of every magazine. And incidentally, if these crew members were at the wrap party, I only saw 2 cast members there. Granted I wasn’t there the whole night, but I was there long enough to know that the others probably weren’t going to show.

I also remember walking with her through the hordes of people lined up, while we shot at Princeton and she signed autograph after autograph. She signed many publicity photos, magazines, pieces of white paper for crew members and their families. Now I know that isn’t the same as curing a disease, but if we are to take anything an actor/actress says or does to personally, then I fear we have far greater problems on our hands.

Unfortunately, I don’t always keep up with or hang on to quotes and/or quips “actresses” say, so I wasn’t familiar with the incident that incited the tasteless letter, but none-the-less leave the war of words to those involved. No need to drag her name through the mud and at the same time, unknowingly, bring others down.

SUPER HERO SQUAD Squishes into Action!

You know Marvel's 'Super Hero Squad'. They're those squished-down versions of the Marvel main-stays who are all about super-fun super-adventures in their super-city. They're also the stars of what some are calling the best Marvel animated show to date.

Take a look at the amazing roster of actors playing heroes on the show. IMDB lists: Adrian Pastar as Hawkeye! Ray Stevenson as Punisher! Kevin Sorbo as Ka-Zar! Mark Hamill as The Red Skull! Lena Headey as Black Widow and Mystique! That's just to name of few of the almost 40 actors assembled to play over 60 Marvel heroes and villains.

If you're in Canada you've already seen the first episode, which ran Sunday on Teletoon. If you're in the U.S., the show premieres this Saturday morning at 8:30 am on Cartoon Network. By all accounts the show is a hoot.

You can get a look at trailers and character designs, play games and make you're own comics at SuperHeroSquad.com

Hawkins says WITCHBLADE Movie "Very Different"

A few years back when TNT put Top Cow's 'Witchblade' on TV as a cable show, it was quite a bit different from the comic book. Now the character is coming to the big screen. So what can fans expect?

Top Cow president Matt Hawkins told MTV Splash Page that the film treatment is "very different from the book" but strives to keep the important themes intact.

"You look into the feelings, the tones and how the character acts, the thing that is the same in 'Wanted' is the character arc of Wesley," said Hawkins. "If you actually look at his journey, it’s the same arc—the circumstances are slightly different and the other characters are slightly different, but it’s the same character arc—so that's what we've been diligently working on with 'Witchblade,' too."

Hawkins says he collaborated with Top Top Cow Marc Silvestri and the folks at Platinum Studios to has out a three-page treatment that lays out the basic story, and balances the needs of the film with the mythology defined in the comics.

The project still lacks a screenwriter, but Hawkins also said they're committed to getting the 'Witchblade' movie right, rather than rushing it into production.

That Superhero Squad toon looks like tons of fun, definitely setting my tivo for that

Witchblade don't really care about, if they make it I'll see it and if not I won't sweat it

Tired of Megan Fox already, I hope Bay does kill her off but I know he won't

Tired of Mark Millar already, kind of makes me wish the film bombs so he can shut his pie hole. I'm still looking forward to it though

The only red carpet I want to crawl with Scarlett Johanson is her own, oh wait she's a blonde isn't she. That's ok, red, black, brown or yellow I'm willing to crawl that strip anytime

As far as Witchblade is concerned, I would like to see a bit more of a comic-style armor...I mean it doesn't have to be near as revealing or what have you, just something better than the midieval armor that appeared in the series.

As far as the whole Megan Fox scenario, that all could've been avoided if the Transformers films had been about the giant robots beating other giant robots.  The whole added human element in both movies pissed me off.  Seriously, Fox was eye candy, Shia is the flavor of the week, though I actually do like the military part, because well seeing the humans fight wars alongside the robots, well that was cool.  Honestly in RotF I honestly had no idea which Autob0t was which, I mean they were mostly just used as background effects.  Seriously, I mean when I watch a Transformers Movie, I don't think I'm asking too much to have a movie about, I dunno, maybe the Transformers?

Also I just want to add, hahahahaha, Kevin Sorbo is Ka-Zar, hahahahaha.  Awesomeness...

silversurfer 9/17/2009 8:55:47 AM

I'm going to have to DVR Superhero Squad and check it out later....

Megan Fox would come out and say something about it, and I don't know if this is all propaganda anyway since her new movie is coming out ...just a thought.

Mark Millar is quickly becoming a legend in his own mind which equals him going down the wrong path...

Witchblade could be done correctly and I have to say this could be a prelude to what a Red Sonja movie could be like.....I doubt that will happen though.

Don't care about auctioning things from IM2....if you really wanted to auction something, how about a premier of the movie itself....just saying....

hanso 9/17/2009 9:28:43 AM

Who cares what Megan Fox said or didn't say!  Stop the  madness!!!

Cheesey1 9/17/2009 10:03:58 AM

They actually showed Superhero Squad on CN either earlier this week or over the weekend, can't remember exactly which day, life's a blur sometimes (I'm in NJ - I hate to admit that, although I guess it could be worse, I could live in Boston - but I'm sure it was on everywhere else). It's definitely targeted to a very young audience, so the stories are very simple and humourous in a corny way, which is fine 'cause that's what the series is all about. I liked that they had so many characters. Certainly FUN and not in a useless hollyweird, shite "block buster," take my $12 and laugh at me as they walk to the bank kind of way.

Calibur454 9/17/2009 12:23:40 PM

I hope Mark Millar doesn't start to sound like Kanye West. I hope he can keep his ego in check

Iron man 2 is a movie I will definetly see.

Witchblade movie will be difficult to do with so many different plotlines to chose from. Just Watch- Sequels will abound and spinoffs Like the Darkness will come forth I can promise you that.

I could really care less about what megan fox says nowadays. Hanso is right about that. I thought it was amusing in the begining but now it is just plain stupid- who cares

pilgram 9/17/2009 1:18:25 PM

Could not give a f**k less about what Megan Fox or anyone on the set of Transformers has to say. If I go see a movie so be it the "high school drop-out drama" is not necessary. If I were Bay I would tell them all to shut the f**k up because it does not make his crew or actress look very professional. I admit he can’t do much about the actress.

What’s up with no profanity?

Hobbs 9/17/2009 1:46:33 PM

I agree hanso, enough with the Megan Fox stuff already...and I'm not talking abou mania...these people that keep releasing these statements...WE don't care!

I have to admit I'm curious what someone will pay to see IM on premire night and meet Scarlet.  Just as long as the 100% of the auction doesn't go to Acorn I'm okay with this.

xenomorph 9/17/2009 2:26:58 PM

Mar Millar has got to have the biggest ego ever. I can't stand it when he talks.

I like that Ray Stevenson is doing the voice for the punisher in super hero squad. It's good to have the live action actor also play the animated part.
