Niles talks DARK DAYS

LONE RANGER - The Whole Story

Last year it was announced that producer 'Pirates of the Caribbean' producer Jerry Bruckheimer was producing a new 'Lone Ranger' movie. The script was to be written by 'Pirates' scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. None other than Johnny Depp was attached to star as the Ranger's native sidekick Tonto. The whole thing was being eyed as Disney's next big franchise after 'Pirates'.

Then, back in June, the whole prospect seemed to have cooled a bit as team Sparrow seemed more focused on a fourth 'Pirates' movie.

Now has laid hands on the script for the film. They're giving their readers a highly-detailed summary (with copious SPOILERS) of the story for the film.

KICK-ASS to bow Early in UK

Bleeding Cool reports that fans in the UK will see Matthew Vaughn's movie 'Kick-Ass' starting April 2nd, a full two weeks before fans in the US will get a chance to see it.

Rubbing it in more than a little bit, Rich Johnston writes, "That’s two weeks worth of spoilers to fill the net. And from what I hear the film does take divergences from the comic, so there’s plenty to spoil."

However, he must concede defeat on at least one front. "The film is called Kick Ass instead of Kick Arse. Damn Americans, you win again."

CAPTAIN AMERICA Fleeing to Britain?

The Geek Files blog points to a lone, random twitter post from a California-based prop rental house Independent Studio Services as a sign that the 'Captain America' movie may be filming in the U.K.

Independent top-dog Gregg Bilson Jr. wrote, "Marvel films is considering filming Captain America in the UK, WTF!"

That is the very definition of sketchy information right there. However, since Bilson is in the biz he may have heard something in the pursuit of landing a contract for the Marvel movie.

Of course, we know that 'Captain America' will film, at least in part, at Raleigh Studios in California. However, given that the movie will spend at least some of its time in the World War 2 time-frame, it's not hard to imagine that there would be some location filming done in Europe as well.

At any rate, we can hard take this micro-burst of chatter as anything other than rumor at this point.

Producer comments on SUICIDE SQUAD Movie chatted with 'Sherlock Holmes' producer Dan Lin and asked him about his various comic book projects. Surprisingly, his plans to bring a third-tier DC Comics title to the big screen seem closest to fruition.

"['Suicide Squad' is] a different kind of superhero movie. For us that’s a super villain movie. It’s almost 'Dirty Dozen' set in the world of supervillains," Lin told Collider. "That’s the only one for me that’s on the front burner."

The producer did predict that the near-future could reveal more about other projects he's attached to, such as 'Justice League' and 'Wonder Woman'.

"[Warner Bros. is] unveiling their DC strategy in January so you’ll hear more about that and they’ll speak about that in the new year," Lin said.

HAWKMAN Squawk Just Talk

Our sources at DC Entertainment tell us that recent rumors of a 'Hawkman' movie are "totally fabricated". Perhaps the authors of the rumor were confused by the upcoming 'Smallville: Absolute Justice' movie, which features the character prominently.

On the other hand, as we said earlier in the week, we have to assume that the newly formed DC Entertainment is open to takes on all characters in their rich library of intellectual properties.

Reynolds Too Manly for GREEN LANTERN?

Comics2Film at has heard that work is proceeding on the 'Green Lantern' movie as you would expect from a film in this stage of pre-production. This includes nailing down costume and set designs, working up props etc.

This also means that the actors have to start worrying about being in super hero shape.

That shouldn't be a problem for leading man Ryan Reynolds, right? The guy's on the cover of Men's Health ever six months or so. His chiseled physique was even the source of a Betty White punchline, when the actress called him an "ab-crunching jackass" in a promo bit for 'The Proposal'.

Never the less, Reynolds has begun a training regimen for the film. Surprisingly, sources tell us that director Martin Campbell is actually looking to get Mr. Reynolds trimmed down a bit to play test pilot-turned-space cop Hal Jordan in the film. Apparently he wants a more toned, athletic look and less of a bulky, muscled look.

At some point Reynolds is going to have to put on a tight-fitting Lantern suit, at which point his ripped physique would seem to come in handy.

Filming on 'Green Lantern' begins early next year.

DC is  planning some major announcements early next year, of course we all already knew that from previous reports, but these announcements supposedly will give us a better picture on DC's plan for their characters and that JL movie. Too bad if Hawkman isn't in the planning

Agree that wouldn't be surprising if Capt America does some location shooting but going by past Marvel comments the Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach will be the primary and main locale for most of their projects

When are we going to get a distributor and release date for North America for Solomon Kane?

jfdavis 12/24/2009 8:55:33 AM

OK first fanboys bitched Cap may not be played by an American. Now they're all set to complain scenes won't be filmed in America? At least that's what I get out the article...

I personally would rather see a Hawkman/Supergirl team-up movie than Lobo for instance but that's just me...

I understand where Campbell is coming from but Reynolds seems fine in that department to me...

krathwardroid 12/24/2009 10:07:39 AM

Solomon Kane is impressive. I like the look and feel of this film. That witch reminds me of the one Ash fought in the pit in Army of Darkness. Very nice. I'm looking forward to this and Green Lantern.

CaptAmerica04 12/24/2009 11:53:14 AM

I'm fine with it if Captain America were filmed ENTIRELY in Europe.  I want to see a WWII story for Steve Rogers, and just conclude it with him falling off the exploding drone plane and into the North Atlantic.  If Marvel sticks to its release dates, Captain America will be followed within a month by The Avengers, which can see the revival of Cap from suspended animation and no need for much origin story at all for the entire team.

All I want for Christmas is a North American release date for Solomon Kane.

madmanic999 12/24/2009 2:06:21 PM

I am seriously pumped for Solomon Kane

Wyldstaar 12/24/2009 2:34:04 PM

Sorry CaptAmerica04, but Marvel Studios changed the release date of the Avengers movie several months ago.  The Captain America and Thor movies are still scheduled for 2011, but The Avengers has been moved to 2012.

madmanic999 12/24/2009 7:07:47 PM

I'm glad to see the Ring Wraiths getting some roles as well... It's got to be tough for an entity in a shadowy robe with no face to get a part in this Hanna Montana, Jonas Brothers dominated decade.  Well done... O_o

Graebeard 12/25/2009 4:07:51 AM

Anyone else have that disturbing sense Solomon Kane looks and feels a bit like Van Helsing?!?

TheScriber 12/25/2009 8:23:17 AM

Solomon Kane is the movie Van Helsing wanted to be.

axia777 12/25/2009 4:55:33 PM

I am with CaptAmerica04! I want the entire film in WWII. Then at the end have Steve Rogers plummeting into the ice to be frozen. After that have Nick Fury and his team pulling Rogers out of the ice to be defrosted and put back into action. Hell, they could even have Tony Stark helping out with defrosting Captain America so he won't die. Kick ass!

What would be even more awesome would be to have a cameo of Wolverine and Sabertooth fighting with Captain America! Because we all know Wolverine was killing Nazis with Captain America during WWII! That would kick ass and add some good Marvel continuity!
