Empire Online reports that fan-fave fantasy director Guillermo del Toro is toying with the idea of returning to Marvel movie making with none other than 'Dr. Strange'. Even more interesting, he wants a certain acclaimed comic book writer to do the screenplay.
"I talked with Neil Gaiman [about writing it]," del Toro said to Empire. "I said, that’s an interesting character because you can definitely make him more in the pulpy occult detective/magician mould and formula than was done in the 'Weird Tales', for example...the idea of a character that really dabbles in the occult in a way that’s not X-Filey, where the supernatural is taken for granted. That’s interesting...But I wouldn't use the suit!"
Fans know well that del Toro has dabbled with many comics properties over the years. His first Marvel feature was 'Blade II' for New Line. He's also the man behind the camera on 'Hellboy' and 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army' as well.
Given his penchant for horror and fantasy, 'Dr. Strange' is right up his alley. But come on, GdT. He's gotta have the cloak!
