Crouching Tiger 2?

No Ang Lee?

By Robert T. Trate     May 17, 2013
Source: The Hollywood Reporter

One word explains this sequel, just one word, China. The Hollywood Reporter has announced the official word that “Michelle Yeoh will star in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 -- The Green Destiny, the Weinstein Co.'s sequel to Ang Lee's Oscar-winning 2000 foreign-language hit”.

If you are wondering what the story will be based and who the players are involved it’s: “Chinese director and martial arts choreographer Yuen Wo Ping is set to direct, with Donnie Yen starring as Silent Wolf and Yeoh returning as Yu Shu Lien.  The screenplay is based on Iron Knight, Silver Vase by Wang Du Lu, book five in the Crane-Iron Pentalogy - on which the first Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was based”.

Yes, you read that right, Ang Lee will not be involved with the production. Back to that one word, China. It is a huge market for Hollywood and a film of this nature is perfect for that. What do you think Maniacs? Will you return for a sequel, 14 tears later, with only Michelle Yeoh? Production begins in March of 2014.

Hell yeah. Loved the first one! Yeoh's character was perhaps my favorite character from the first. Still some of the best martial arts I've ever seen in a movie. Most of my circle of friends don't get it, but this sure fits in my wheelhouse. I was big time bummed when it didn't win for best movie.

One of my favorite films of all time. But I don't see how a sequel will be able to top the mystery/sexiness/amazingness of Zhang Ziyi's character who left a wake of carnage like the Tazmanian Devil. And Chow Yun Fat has a far superior aura and acting ability than Donnie Yen.

But considering Donnie Yen's character is named, "Silent Wolf" perhaps he's a Snake Eye's kind of character and i'm comparing apples to oranges.

Anyways, without Ang Lee directing, I'm afraid it might end up just another Kung Fu flick you see everyday at ur local video store, or Netflix selection...... so idk what the hell to think.

The first one was kick ass!!  I would have to see a preview first to judge.  Regardless, I would check it out just to see where they are going with this.  Because after a 2, 3's are almost always around the corner... unless you're Mortal Kombat.  At least they have someone directing that choreographed the fight scenes from the first one so the action should be within the same style.

I'd give a sequel a chance.  The first was amazing.

the extraordinary beauty of the first film was the unspoken love between Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun Fat's characters - just exquisite acting and directing and one of the most moving love stories I've ever seen. The rest of the film was also fantastic, but that 'romance' will be missing from the sequel. Looking forward to it though. Hope they get Yoyo Ma back.

What the hell pay ang lee. I was sure he mentioned intrest in doing another one. IMDB lits his current project a tv movie WTH. 14 years ago i remember seeing photos in magazines of filming and thinking how breath taking each shot was. Worried a new crew won't be able to capture the same visual feel.
