Yeah, I'll throw my 2 cents in the hat with Darkknight and Wiseguy about the under suit. It always puzzled me when I saw the original why everybody (except the prisoners, who wore black) is wearing white the fabric they put in the capsule is red, blue, and yellow.

Is that a Super-Paunch I see?

While the designs we've seen thus far aren't exactly what I would have choosen, I'm actually glad that it appears we are getting a totally different version of Superman.  It is time for a change from the old movies.

As far as Krypton, it was YEARS after I saw the original movies before I realized that Krypton was likely never intended to be an ice planet in the comics.  However, I can see why Donner would choose that route - making a connection of the Fortress of Solitude to a natural Krypton environment.

Did Donner's Krypton explode because of the red sun, or did Darth Vader blow it up because he thought it was Hoth?

I totally agree with what appears to be the concensus here.  It's best that this new Superman movie series is going it's own way and it's long overdue.  As much as I loved the Donner films that was just too long ago now to continue from (see Superman Returns as evidence of this!) or to borrow too much from.  The costume doesn't look bad to me but I liked the heavenly or angelic look of the Donner films.  As mentioned several times here already, Crowe's in Jor-El's costume may look better on set and with the proper lighting so I'll reserve final judgement until seeing the end result.  BTW, Russell you need to stop smoking!

The only major issue I had with them was in the ending of Superman 2 where it was concluded that Superman couldn't be with Lois Lane because of his "higher purpose."  One of the most interesting aspects of the Superman story is his relationship with Lois and for Donner to have ripped that away in the end of Superman 2 always bothered me.  He had boxed in the Superman/Clark Kent and Lois relationship into a platonic state after that point in that movie series even if he had not been fired by the Salkinds!  Hopefully this new Superman movie series will not make that same mistake.

I swore that Crowe was smoking a joint when I first saw the pics.

I like the new look.  I agree with the undersuit being the same as Kal-El's.  I'm thinking Jor-El's look (the scruffy, dirty look) may be caused by the imminent destruction of Krypton.  In some continuity I remember seeing, Jor-El everyone the planet was going to explode, but no one would listen to him.  Maybe the same thing is happening here, but the actual destruction is a slower process with catastrophes happening all over the planet.  Thus, everyone is fighting to survive and doesn't have time to shave, take showers or wash their clothes (or something more profound that I was intending to end with but completely lost my train of thought).

Thought for a minute we were seeing scenes from Gladiator 2.  Nice cape.

So I guess they are staying truer to the donner flicks that most of you realize.  Obviously they feel they need a pompous egotistical ass to play Jor El and since Brando is dead, I can't think of any actor on earth (or Krypton) that fits the bill better than Crowe.  And before all you little ladies in the Crowe fan club jump my shit, I know he's a great actor jut like Brando but he's also an arrogant jackass, just like Brando.

One thing I know for sure is that Russell Crowe knows how to bring it... and if he looks a little scruffy, or whatever, it's for a good reason and he'll make it work to the highest level.

Reek, you make it sound like you've met Russell Crowe in person... I've always heard that he was a real cool guy to know and be around, he just enjoys a beer and a smoke too.
