Paramount Pictures has officially confirmed previous reports that they're moving forward on Mission: Impossible IV, with Tom Cruise back for the role of Ethan Hunt. The film, which will be produced by Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and Bad Robot Productions and will star Cruise, will be released Memorial Day weekend 2011. The film will be co-financed by David Ellison's Skydance Productions. Paramount is searching for a director for the fourth installment.
"Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to re-launch this legendary franchise," said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey.
Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are attached to write the script, from an original idea by Cruise and Abrams.
The studio has it currently set for May 20, 2011. This Memorial-themed release would have it competing against Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Hangover 2.
Since hitting theaters in 1996, Paramount's Mission: Impossible franchise has taken in $1.401 billion worldwide.
Does this qualify as a zombie franchise now?
