In a feature piece which centers on Tom Cruise's latest career choices, the Hollywood Reporter has let slip that the actor is in talks with Warner Bros. Pictures to board We Are Mortals, Doug Liman's upcoming adaptation of the sci-fi manga All You Need Is Kill. At one point in time, his Interview with the Vampire co-star Brad Pitt was also being considered for the lead role but that seems to have changed with Cruise's name being thrown into the casting mix.

The trade doesn't say whether the Bourne Identity director will tackle "Mortals" or his recently announced adaptation of "Everest" first but we should hear more about the feature if Cruise does come on board in an official capacity. The actor has recently jumped back into the sci-fi genre after choosing to topline Joseph Kosinsk's long-awaited adaptation of Horizons and also recently agreed to board One Shot, the upcoming take on the Jack Reacher character from author Lee Childs.

Plot Concept: "We Are Mortals" is an adaptation of "All You Need is Kill," a Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. There's one thing worse than dying. It's coming back to do it again and again... When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the B*tch of War. Is the B*tch the key to Keiji's escape, or to his final death?

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

Hey Mania, did you guys forget that you had an anime/manga section? I say that because this story came up on my feed.

Groundhog Day 2: The Bloodening would have been a much better title.  No surprise that Cruise is getting on the comic flick bandwagon but the ONLY comic movie I'd like to see him in is playing Mr. I in a Great Lakes Avengers movie.  Well, come to think of it, I guess he's gonna die over and over again either way so I guess that's okay.

I been waiting forever for this movie to come out.  I hope they hurry up and make it happen but as things are going this will be development hell forever. . . .just like Akira or Battle Angel

I think if Cruise lands the lead role then there is a really good chance this movie will actually reach the theaters, I am not familiar with this story but it does sound really interesting. And yeah reek, i am sure ol'Tommy boy wants to jump onto the comic flick money wagon. Gotta pay those scientology bills somehow.

This sound very close to Gantz.  Now that would be a hell of a movie to do that follows the story more closely than the two movies that were done.
