Tom Cruise's production company has bought the movie rights to a new novel, hoping to turn it into a feature film. Christopher Reich's novel THE DEVIL'S BANKER is the property in question, a thriller about a female undercover British spy and an American counterterrorism agent that's specialized in forensic accountant matters. Together the duo uncover evidence that points to a terrorist plot against the United States, coordinated by a man who is playing a game of cat-and-mouse via worldwide banks. The terrorist is moving his money and bank accounts around the world, staying one step ahead of the good guys as they try and follow his trail. Reich's novel was published by Random House this past August.
Cruise/Wagner Productions will develop the property and it will likely become a film for Paramount Pictures, the studio where C/W has their first-look deal. No screenwriter has yet been hired to adapt the material.
