Cumberbatch For del Toro Frankenstein?

Doctor or Creature?

Yesterday we posted the news that Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim) wanted Charlie Kauffman (Being John Malkovich) to pen the script for a remake of Slaughterhouse-Five (read here). As if del Toro isn’t busy enough, he now wants Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness) to be in his passion project, a retelling of Frankenstein. When this particular project will begin depends on Crimson Peak getting finished, The Strain’s pilot being shot, and maybe even waiting for Slaughterhouse-Five to get started.

The Daily Telegraph had this to report: "he is hoping to direct Cumberbatch again in a new film version of ‘Frankenstein’.”.

Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) had already done test shots as the creature back in 2009. So if del Toro is going to go with one of his favorite actors as the creature, will this mean Cumberbatch will be the Doctor?

The interesting thing is that Cumberbatch has played both parts in Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein stage production. He switched roles with fellow Sherlock Holmes actor Johnny Lee Miller. How long will it be until Universal Studios puts this on the fast track remains to be seen. However, I would expect to see it sometime around Dan Radcliffe and Fox’s production of Frankenstein slated for fall of 2014.

 Nice, Benedict as Doctor Frankestein.

I think del toro's styling is repetitive.  Still he's a pretty good story teller.  So I will see this as long as it doesn't stray too far.

Does del Toro just like to have his every working moment planned out for him for the next 20 years? He's got more projects pending then any other director.

Why? Another Frankenstein? Lame, even if it is Del Toro. I am sure it will be good, but I don't really need another Frankie movie after tha awesomeness that was Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein.

Del Toro, now that's one bad ass Mexican!!!

Who wouldn't want Cumberbatch in their movie?  He's pretty darn good.

Sounds like a great idea...

Now I would also like to see a remake of the James Whale Universal version with Michael Shannon as the Monster...

I just Soooo want to see him in that classic Jack Pierce makeup!

I would rather have Del Toro make the re-boot for the Creature From The Black Lagoon. That is both more his style and has not been beaten like a dead horse.

So we'll have I, Frankenstein with Aaron Eckhart, Frankenstein with Daniel Radcliffe as Igor and probably Del Toro's version in 2014.  Talk about beating the proverbial dead horse.

I would like Hellboy 3.. but that's me.
