Noting the extremely successful example of DreamWorks SHREK, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have now chosen to bring CURIOUS GEORGE to the big screen in an all-CG feature film.
This is only the latest development for a project which had been in the works for quite some time. Initially, plans were to adapt the books as a live-action feature which gradually evolved into George himself being realized via CG effects.
Imagine big shot and producer Brian Grazer spoke of the film's development woes, and its new direction, saying, "I've tried to lick it as live-action, then live-action with animation, but it's been hard. George the monkey has to have power and be able to express power, and it's difficult to do that in a live-action mix. I have to admit the amazing success of SHREK convinced me that this (3-D-animated format) is the exact way to do it."
Though THE IRON GIANT helmer Brad Bird had been attached to helm the project before as well as having written a script, there's no current word on who might direct the coming film.
