Curse of Chucky Update

Child's Play Sequel Starts Shooting

It seems like we’ve heard news of a Child’s Play sequel and reboot for years now, but it appears that a sequel is finally happening. According to Moviehole, Universal Home Entertainment is moving forward with Curse of Chucky.
The film will be written and directed by Don Mancini and begins shooting this September in Winnipeg. This will be a direct-to-video sequel that is said to focus more on the scares than humor and here is the plot synopsis:
“Chucky arrives to wreck havoc within a family that’s regrouped for a funeral. In the wake of her mother’s passing, a young woman – in a wheelchair since birth – is forced to put up with her sister, brother-in-law, niece and their nanny as they say their goodbyes to mother. When people start turning up dead, the fearless Nica discovers the culprit might be a “strange doll” she was sent a couple of days earlier.”
Fans won’t have to worry about who’s voicing Chucky, because Brad Dourif is already on board. However, this movie is said to pass over the recent sequels and will be more of a follow up to Child’s Play 3, so we won’t see any of the newer characters including Jennifer Tilly. Here are more spoiler-filled character and plot details via Moviehole:

“Main characters in the film include heroine Nica; Barb, Nica’s older sister, a manipulative, controlling cow that nags her handsome husband Ian and 5-year-old daughter Alice; and Jill, the “smokin’ hot” nanny that’s sleeping with Ian. There’s also fun supporting characters like a meddling priest, who will come face-to-cross with Chucky, and of course, the deceased woman, mother Sarah. But, as I said, it’s Chucky who takes king credit – he’s who we want to see, and by golly, sounds like he’s back to his murderous ways. As I said, this is a return to ‘nasty’ Chucky – the scary little son-of-a-bitch that leaves nobody standing around to get their shits and giggles as two plastic dolls play hide the plastic cabana via silhouette… There’s a big-ass knife, and by golly, Chucky’s gonna use it – and in the most graphic of ways. There’s some very disturbing slaughter scenes planned for the flick.”

In a wheelchair since birth? That poor woman! Ouch!

I thought they were planning a complete reboot of the franchise.

No Jennifer Tilly!?! She's the only reason I saw the last couple of films.

I hope whomever wrote that last paragraph isn't employed in marketing.  It sounds like the ramblings of a 14-year-old pimply kid with too much soda and Milky Ways in him.

So Stewie Griffin on the big screen at last huh? Awesome.

The really funny part here as that an entire generation has been born who don't even know about the "My Buddy" toys the original film was playing on. How do you get that creepy feeling from a toy you never feared when seeing in a store?

I saw the first back in the day and pieces of one (...more maybe?) of the sequels but I'm not signing up for this. I may have a soft spot for bad Nightmare on Elmstreet of Friday the Thirteenth films but Chucky don't get the same break.

So, we've had a freddy reboot, a jason reboot, a second texas chainsaw massacre reboot(the one with jordana brewster), and now a chucky reboot/sequel? Not hellraiser, or pet cemetary, or poltergiest, or any of the other classic horror flicks that could use the reboot treatment, but chucky, a franchise that should have died with bride of chucky, but they just had to squeeze one more drop out of it. And now we get another one...I'm soo excited.  Can someone call Joss Whedon and ask him to make another horror movie ? Or the guy that turned Abraham Lincoln: vampire hunter into a movie, I bet he'd make something good. What about Wes Craven, where's he been ?

Betenoire, you hit the nail on the head.  Nobody, except the fans of the first that are our age, will get the 'in' joke or why big dolls are creepy.

That this is direct-to-dvd is what scares me.  No Chucky, no giant butcher blade, this.  It means no thought went into it and they just want a sequel to make money.  I may rent it, I may not, but at least 'Bride' and 'Seed' we're good attempts.  I thought they were witty, funny, and gory ('Bride' being the best).  This just screams, 'I don't care'.

Prove me wrong, oh Hollywood creators.

I'll always be receptive to a new Chucky/Child's Play movie.  Don Mancini is actually a family member of mine.  Some sort of 2nd cousin or some shit.  Not really sure, but it's cool that I'm somehow related to a horror writer!  I remember hearing that he was in the process of writing Bride of Chucky like 2 years before anyone knew anything about the project.

They need to embace all the films for fans.
