Two more actors have joined the next end-of-the world thriller from the man who brought us The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day and 10,000 B.C2012 for Columbia Pictures. Redbelt star Chiwetel Ejiofor also is in talks to join the big-budget epic, whose title refers to the end days of human civilization as foretold by the ancient Mayan calendar. Emmerich and his "10,000" teammate Harald Kloser penned the screenplay and Kloser will be producing alongside Mark Gordon and Larry Franco.

Barring a SAG strike, shooting is set to begin in Los Angeles in July.

Plot Concept: The specific plot details are being kept under wraps but the story kicks off with a global cataclysm, which brings an end to the world as we know it, and chronicles the heroic struggle of the survivors.
John Cusack has signed on to topline Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic thriller

Well, if its anything like 10,000 BC it will be pretty weak. Granted the caliber of actor with Chiwetel and Cusack might help but I kind of doubt it.

So the Mayans believed the world would end in 2012. Would someone explain why we're supposed to care??

At least with Cusack & Ejiofor, I have confidence that the movie will be at least more intelligent than 10,000 B.C. appeared to be. They both tend not to do tons of mindless dreck. And before someone brings up Con Air, I did say "tend not to." I didn't say they never do a movie that sucks.

Bite your tongue Dude! Con Air was great! It started that whole series of action packed explosive Bay , Bruckheimer movies. I don`t have a problem with that.

Actually, it's not only the Mayans. Many civilizations (or people) have came to the same conclusion. In fact, on newly deciphered documents of Nostradamus's he came to the same conclusion and there's no way that he knew about the Mayans. I forgot all the other people that name the same year as being the end but you have to admit that it's kind of spooky (if that can be the word for it). I guess if it happens there won't be no Avengers movie.

In fact, if you can catch watch the new Nostradamus show that came on History Channel, it's scary. And I know a lot of people don't believe his predictions came true I for one kind of do. The thing that I know that makes people not believe is that people change what he actually said to either dumb it down or make it more exaggerated. Like the 9/11 thing. They took what he actually said and butchered it so they were saying he actually said one thing when he said another. And he never said that he was actually right. I remember watching one show a long time ago with some guy hosting...I forgot who it was, famous cat but he gave coordinates that closely matched to where the Twin Towers were saying something about screaming eagles doing something. And if I was back in Nostradamus time I'd say that screaming eagle is a pretty accurated depictionof an airplane if you didn't know what one was. Check it out but you have to seperate the bullshit people from what he really said.

Uh, okay?

I liked Con Air and I am planning to see Redbelt. I think both of these actors are excelent at their craft and Roland has made some kick ass summer movies.

Count me in.

Mr Jawbreaker...
You don't believe we have had anything to do with global warming, or "very little" (post on another thread) BUUUUTTT, you believe in Nostradamus predictions. hmmmmmm. that confounds me.

But on the other hand, I guess it makes sense. Since I believe humans have made a great impact on global climate change, but I see very little in Nostradamus's predictions.

Well Mr. Jawbreaker, I appreciate the info, but with all due respect to the Mayans and Nostradamus, this smells strongly of leftover Y2K and Comet Hale-Bopp.

It sounds like it could make a fun movie though.

Zenwarrior, dude you hit on what I was about to say. This is just some more b.s. but it makes for a topic of conversation. On 2013 we'll be talking about something else that will destroy the planet or life on it. I wonder how many films we're going to get on this topic and isn't the legends of Crystal Skulls connected to this.

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium, and because Nostradamus said it it's true. That dude was wrong more than he was right and his stuff is so vague it could mean almost anything.

Hey I predict that a movie will come out ten years from now on memorial weekend. And it will be an action movie.

Oh and the history channel specials are often a joke. It might as well be the Sci-fi channel with some of the shows it has on there. Now I like a lot of the shows on this channel, but some of their specials are rediculous and not based on any sort of science.

As for the movie, it's fanatsy or sci-fi and it could be fun. So the Mayans calander didn't go on forever. It's not like they had computers to project it out forever. But as rediculous as the concept is for this movie, it might still be really cool.
