You loved 'Smallivlle'. You wanted to love 'Birds of Prey'. Now The CW is taking another pass at adapting the Batman family for the teen drama crowd with the just-announced series 'The Graysons'.

Variety reports that current 'Smallville' showrunners Kelly Soulders and Brian Petersen, as well as 'Supernatural' executive producer McG are developing a pilot for the new show that will follow the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson, the boy who will eventually become Robin.

Souders, Peterson, McG and Peter Johnson (of McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision shingle) will exec produce.

With 'Smallville' getting a bit long in the tooth, The CW sees the Batman prequel as a a likely successor.

Specifics of the show's story content have not yet been revealed, so its unclear if the show will be set in a circus, with The Graysons as trapeze performers as they are in the comics.

What do you think? Will 'The Graysons' be the next 'Smallville'. Or will this Robin smash into a window pane like the 'Birds of Prey before it? Who do you see cast as the burgeoning Boy Wonder? Post your comments below!

I'm still hoping they don't get as far as casting before they realize how bad an idea this is. If not is definitely crashing anyway. Does this mean that comic2films and mania may run the same story but on their separate pages, cause mania already put this up.

Oh my god... please spend some brain for those in charge at the CW! The audience would be insane to watch something like that. What sense does it make to do a superhero comic adaption without the superhero? Smallville without Superboy/man was stupid enough. And after the (thank god) dropped Bruce Wayne tv-series they will do another stupid series based on Robin? Who cares, what he did before he met the Batman? A Nightwing series for adult comic-fans would be much more fun. Even if it's just a (well) animated series. The Graysons will hopefully fail after the pilot!!! But... what am I dreaming of? The failing Sarah Connor Chronicles proves that good scifi is no longer wanted by the audience. I can't understand what's happening there. Stupidity is taking over the US-tv-world. It's a shame! That's why I can understand them somehow. This new show proves once again, that Warner uses great names to do cheap series and earn the largest amount of money possible. They won't spend some to do a really good superhero show! They must think it will surely fail!

Dear CW/WB, Your current audience is primarily teens and young adults due to the surprising success of 'Gossip Girl','One Tree Hill' and '90210'. Now don't get me wrong...I am a comic book geek from way back and I am a longtime fan of Superman so I have watched and stuck with Smallville even though it isn't the best interpretation of the man of steel. It has moments- but it has lasted because of the attractive young cast as with all your shows. The CW/WB model type kids/young adults that frequent everyone of your shows is the draw, but lets just for a moment assume you want to appeal to comic book fans also. No,no,no to 'The Graysons'. It will fail faster than 'Runaway' and 'Jack and Bobby', if it lasts as long as 'Birds of Prey' you will still cancel it. So here is an idea since obviously you want to replace 'Smallville': Riverview High School is home to 5 teens with 'gifts',to the school they are the outcasts who reside at an orphanage/home run by John Jones(J'onn J'onnz the Martian)and a female to be determined(Barbara Gordon maybe?). The Riverview Titans has an athletic program unrivaled while the Private School across town is the Academic whiz(home to teen villains in training). See where I'm going? Your five outcasts who deal with everyday teen life and love while fighting crime and protecting the city are Tim Drake or Dick Grayson as Robin,Raven the goth girl with mystical power,Starfire brought to earth by the martian to protect her,Cyborg from 'Smallville'and either 'Impulse' Wally West or a shape shifter code named Beastboy(save on the f/x and go with Impulse),across town is the Private School run by headmaster Slade. So with that premise you can revisit high school as with your other shows and still bring in comic book fans- think of it as: the Gossip Girl school vs West Beverly high with teen superheroes. It has potential to be your next 'Smallville'- meaning it can run for about 5 yrs maybe longer and still hit your target demographic. That is alot more interesting than a family of trapeze artists and a kid who eventually becomes Robin- if he never becomes Robin and Batman isn't in the show then why would anyone watch? Personally I loved Birds Of Prey but only wanted to love Smallville. I don't even wanna like this turd idea. What is up with the double articles now?

Yeah JB, WB never really gave Birds of Prey a chance. Which is unfortunate because I thought it had potential. As for this, WTF are they thinking? This just isn't a good idea.

Right on Flint! I thought that Birds was developing nicely and deserved a much better chance than it got. Far superior to Smallville IMHO. This? WTF is about all there is to say.

You know, MovieMan, I would rather see the Real story of Alfred the butler, wasn't Alfred a spy before working for the Wayne's? The Grayson's is a very bad idea, what are these people at CW thinking? Are they on crack? Is it April fools day already? What is the story with the thought processes of CW executives? Do they like wasting their company's money? Send it to me, I will at least come up with something worth watching. How about a series with the Question? Red Tornado? The Huntress (without the Birds of Prey)? Manhunter (not the Martian Manhunter)? I could go on and on....
