On Friday, it was announced that Dan Brown has won a court ruling against author Lewis Perdue who claimed his book THE DA VINCI CODE copied elements from two of his books. The suit was for $150 million in damages.

Perdue had claimed CODE infringed on the copyright of his novels DAUGHTER OF GOD and THE DA VINCI LEGACY, and that Brown had copied the basic premis of DAUGHTER.

The N.Y. judge presiding over the case stated "a reasonable average lay observer would not conclude that 'The Da Vinci Code' is substantially similar to 'Daughter of God'."

Hi, I want as many people as possible to give feedback to this, so read the comments from yesterday...

This really has nothing to do with the article above, but I have a question to ask all of you. How can we get the guy who seems to be writing all the articles on MOVIES.COM fired? This jackass just insults my personal tastes on a daily bases and I'm sure most of you can relate. Yeah, he's funny on occasion, but the guy has alienated me for the last time! Let's get this guy. Any ideas?

bigbadbuffyfan, WTF are you talking about?

I'm talking about movies.com, one of the largest movie sights on the web. There's this writer who does the buzz for upcoming projects. He has to be the most anoying film/tv commentator ever. EVER. And I find his views on most of the projects to be uneducated and protentious at the same time. This guy makes fun of the project, while claiming to know all about it- when the actual fan community has been excited about the project for a long time. I hate it! And finally he made one too many cracks about Serenity, which crossed a line. I wouldn't hate it so much if this was some obscure critic, but this stuff is read "objectively" by thousands of the more mainstream audience members every day. His uneducated opinion actually effects a movies interest level online. How and why is this guy still writing?

Oh, one last thing. His name is Mike Standish. Here's a couple examples of what he has said:

Sean Connery says he's retiring because he's sick of Hollywood "idiots" — Harrison, maybe you should do the same so they can get on with the rumored Young Indiana Jones movie. I don't really wanna see Indiana Jones and the Quest for Metamucil on Aisle 7

(On Serenity) Geeks in Space It's kind of cute the way all the little nerdlings get excited when a new Serenity trailer appears. It's gonna break my heart when they're the only ones in the theater on opening night.

(On Rent) Just in case the trailer didn't have enough singing for you — and if it didn't, well, you need help — the filmmakers have released a three-minute music video. It's pretty much the same as the trailer, just with more … singing. Great.

The last one didn't offen me, but it did my friends who love the musical thing. Anyway, here's even more examples...

(V for Vendetta) It's too bad; for all the star power (Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving), the trailer makes it seem like a futuristic Zorro knock-off. And the mask is just not very threatening. Or at all scary, really.

As long as there are 40-year-old virgins with allowance money, there will be Star Trek movies. The next one might be a prequel set in 2010, a time when nuclear war threatens to destroy the world. Hey, that's five years from now. I assumed we'd blow each other up long before then. I've got plenty of time left to mock lonely Trekkies who've never seen another person naked!

Well, enough said. Let him go write for... oh... I gues Maxim would be a good place for his writing. At least there you can expect the film commentary to be bad. And hey, I 'm sure he wouldn't mind the parties over there.

Aaand going on top again...

The Da Vinci Code is indeed a complete piece of shit. I don't know anything about Daughter Of God but apparently it bears more then a passing resemblence to Holy Blood, Holy Grail. However, I think Dan Brown is chums with the writers of that one, so they're hardly going to sue.

I fail to comprehend how such a mediocre novel can possibly become so wildly popular...:S

How did Perdue think he was going to get sh!t from Brown??? These theories about the Grail and Christ bloodline are older then me. The only reason it became popular in the last 30 years again is because Holy Blood, Holy Grail. That guy won't sue Brown because Da Vinci Code made people wipe the dust off his book. He has gotten tons of press just skimming the coat tails of Brown.

The Da Vinci Code was pretty bad. I read Angels and Demons and thought it was his best work. I thought Tha Da Vinci Code would top it but it fell way short of the mark.

What's next the Bourne movies are a rip off of James Bond without the hot chicks??

To B3F at the top, why are you posting that here, I doubt anyone cares enough about that. Anyways, I honestly don't get all the **** that has arisen about Da Vinci Code. I thought the book was ok. It wasn't complete doody, but it certainly wasn't a life altering book. Are people really so guillable that they would take it so much to heart. The church is the worst part of it because they have cursed the thing like it was the book of the devil. I personally find the book to bring up an interesting theory, one that people are too quick to deny simply because of their fear of the fact that they might be wrong about what they believe. I think it's stupid, and I think it shows how truly stupid people can be. As for this article, I don't find it too big a deal. There really isn't a very original idea in this day and age, so this kind of thing is bound too happen.

I think bigbadbuffyfan = Mike Standish = shameless self-promotion.

I enjoyed Da Vinci Code, but there is certainly a stunning amount of hype. I think it was because Brown really rocked some boats. A lot of people had never even considered the possibility that the history of the events in the book could possibly be different from Established Doctrine, so this theory about an alternate history, presented in a mainstream way, really slapped some people in the face.

I personally enjoyed Da Vinci Code and liked alot of theories that were talked about in the novel. However, i think alot of peopel misread what is being said by the novel since it is based on the beliefs of Da Vinci and not what history was realy about. I mean the dude was born in 1452 meaning alot of what he knows was based on ideas of other people...even if he had scrapes with the church it would be his personal feelings. Let's say that his beliefs are from a group of people, a secret society but those beliefs would still be of that groups beliefs. People read the novel incorrectly and believe the issues to be real issues, however they are beliefs from a man who happends to be very influential in art and history.

I know I am going to be attacked for saying this, but I know in who I believe. If you want to know the true story of Christ look no further than His living Word. Experience that for yourself and you will see that every other story is an attack of the truth. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords...Forever.

Long live Arius! Scourge of the Council of Nicea and Challenger of Religious Doctrine!

• Aug 08, 2005, 12:47pm •
Now, everyone knows that religion is one of THE most touchy subject in the world. People lie for their faith, people will steal for their faith, people will even kill for their faith.

Then, you have a book like Da Vinci Code who brings a tale of theories, ideas and discussions about many aspect of one particular religion.

I don't think you should get attacked about what you said Renderman72 BUT, you shouldn't also try to push your beliefs on somebody else. Your saying the bible and all that is all that you need for the word of god? sure, that's good. But for mw, I liked reading Da Vinci Code because it is an interesting book, it's not about pushing or advertising anyone's belief and it was very entertaining.

It's funny, people don't believe in U.F.O.'s, their goverment, conspiracies (I mean, Lee A. Oswall killed J.F.K., yeah right) but, they are willing to have faith in something that was written so many years ago and that no one can proove. So, of course that's what faith is all about yes but, why then judge someone else who brings other ideas (like Dan Brown) about a belief like Jesus that is based on something so old and un-proven?

That book (DVC) made things very interesting because it just brough ideas and questions about things either some people did though of but were too scared to say or, there is actual truth about things kings and historian changed in the past that we will never know or, people who didn't like it just made their belief that much stronger because they din't question their own faith so even by reading the book, it changed nothing for them.

I am sick to my stomach when I hear someone else judges someone's belief, it should go either way.

Some people do believe in god, some don't, live with that fact people and stop being insulted or being all mad about people, ideas or even facts that are questionning our life and history.

we are ALL human people, can't we all live together instead of judging all the time
