Collins Suggests More TOS Surprises in TREK - Aug 20, 2008 - 09:08pm
almostunbiased, Knowles is known for liking *everything*. That's why when he wasn't all that excited about the footage Abrahms showed him, it leads me to believe that even Knowles thinks it's crap. Which is HUGE (not as huge as Harry, but you get the point). Harry Knowles is the 21st century's Gene "I love everything!" Shallit.

Collins Suggests More TOS Surprises in TREK - Aug 20, 2008 - 10:58am
Still looks like this thing is going to be a gigantic piece of poo. When Harry Knowles over at AICN doesn't cream himself in the article he wrote about getting to view some of the footage last month, you know this thing is going to be bad.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS - Aug 16, 2008 - 09:32am
Here is my review for it... So I got to see this thing for free on Monday, and before I get into the review I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that this is the pilot for the new animated series that is going to be on the Cartoon Network in a few weeks. Lucas is just double dipping by trying to bleed more money from it by releasing it in the theaters. With that said, I fell asleep three times during this thing. I didn't think it was possible to do in animation, but they actually made this series as boring as the prequels. This is a far, far cry from The Clone Wars animated mini series that was released a few years back. Gone is the chemistry between the main characters and the awe of good animation and competent storytelling. Instead, we get the same wooden dialog, bad (and at times painful to watch) animation, a main plot that was a throwaway subplot at best, and yet another waste of the audience's time (and more importantly, money). The addition of a padawan for Skywalker while great for the kiddies, gets to be annoying at times. Especially with the overuse of the stupid nicknames they give each other. We've seen that with the right writer and director at the helm (Gennedy's "Clone Wars" is the example), this universe is still a vast untapped potential for excitement, adventure, and humanity. Unfortunately, the writers and director are being heavily influenced by George this time around, so any hope at seeing something wonderful is gone. Rating: Wait the three weeks and watch it on the Cartoon Network. You'll save $10 for a good movie like The Dark Knight, Iron Man, or Hellboy 2.

Comicscape: The Ever-Expanding Comic-Con - Aug 07, 2008 - 01:05pm
Lister, the desire is to have fun. Why go out with your friends on Sat. night? What's the desire in that? Why go to a professional sports event? What's the desire in that? Why go see a movie in a theater with a bunch of strangers? Everyone is plugged into different things that they like and that they have fun doing. Comic Con (not ComiCon), just happens to have quite a bit more genres put together in one place then any other event out there. AND it's still relatively cheap. I go to Comic Con with my friends. It's a vacation and an adventure (because most of the time, you never know what you'll wind up doing, seeing, or going) all rolled up into one. It's like Vegas for geeks. Or Nerd-a-palooza. Or Nerdi Gras. Or Burning Man without the camping.....um, except for camping in the lines.... It's the desire to have fun, and every Con experience is different every year. Hell, even every DAY for that matter. On a side note, I prefer Wonder Con (Comic Con's little sister) in San Francisco to Comic Con just because it's not as line crazy as San Diego. Also it's close to where I live, so that's a plus as well.

Comicscape: The Ever-Expanding Comic-Con - Aug 06, 2008 - 01:27pm
Having attended the con as both a fan in previous years, and this year working in a booth I'd have to say that Comic Con has gotten out of hand. I can actually look back at pictures of the floor that I took in 2003, and see an exponential difference in the crowds (both in the type of people attending, and the amount of people attending) between then and now. The movie and television industry uses Comic Con almost like a test marketing experiment to see how their product is received. And as such, fans are exposed to more 'exclusive' clips than in years past just as a test to see if the reaction is favorable or marginal. A friend of mine and I were talking about the ridiculously long lines, and we think we hit upon a solution. Lottery tickets. You sign up online the week before Con for the panels you want to see. When you arrive to pick up your pass, you're given your ticket(s) to the panels you've won access to. Each ticket admits two people. It cuts down on lines, and it actually gives the fan back some time to see other things that they might have missed while waiting in line for 4 hours to see that Heroes panel, only to be turned away from the door. This would also benefit panels that were shoved into smaller rooms, but have a really enormous fanbase (like the Venture Bros.). The lines alone is the reason why Comic Con sucks. Eliminate that problem, and then you may be getting somewhere. Lister, think of everything from your childhood (and even things from adulthood) crammed into the length and width of two football fields. Add to that freebies, celebrities, costumes, more freebies, scantily clad women, more freebies, free movies, parties at night with more freebies and scantily clad women, and you'll get what all the hubbub is about.

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 12:58pm
Indy 4 had: Bad CGI Stupid MacGuffin A character that should have been snuffed in a bomb blast No soul No Sallah Too much LaDouche John Hurt in his worst role ever (he literally was luggage) No fart/poop jokes (which you *know* George probably had in the first script) A lot of suckers (including me) that went to see it, hoping that it would actually be good but secretly knowing better.

Box Office: WALL-E Victorious But WANTED Strikes Hard - Jun 29, 2008 - 04:42pm
I saw both Wall-E and Wanted this weekend. I liked both. Wall-E was probably my fourth favorite Pixar film (behind Incredibles, Monsters, and Nemo). As for Wanted, I totally divorced myself from the comic before going into this one. I knew that it wasn't going to be anything at all remotely like the comic, and as a result, I saw a pretty damn entertaining movie. As for next weekend, it's going to be close, but I think Wall-E will either barely beat out Hancock, or will come in at an awfully close second. Wanted will come in third. Hulk will probably drop one or two places, but since only one big movie is coming out next weekend there's just going to be some settling in the pecking order from this weeks list.

Comicscape: Dan Didio’s Countdown to Internet Crisis - Jun 25, 2008 - 10:31pm
So far, Quesada's books have been kicking ass. Yes, that includes Spidey's OMD/BND. I've dropped all DC titles except for Jonah Hex (which is their only title left that is consistently well written). DC needs to do a few things to get back on track: 1. Scrap the cheesy crossover stories. If you can't keep the story straight, nor plan ahead for a year or two (or five like Marvel has done), don't try to do a crossover event. 2. Go back to basics. Obscure characters and obscure histories are only going to attract 2 or maybe 3 fans. The rest won't care, and new fans will be too intimidated to even pick up a book seeped in the details of a minor event that happened 45 years ago. 3. Get better writers. Marvel has Joss Whedon, Strazinski, Bendis, etc., while DC really only has Palmotti as their best (and most competent) writer. 4. Make your books fun to read again. Don't drag out a story or a fight like an episode of Dragonball Z (14 episodes of the two fighters staring at each other saying how much of a bad ass they are, and then the fight (3 episodes) sucks balls and is frankly a giant letdown after the big build up). Get in, get out, tell the fucking story in a coherent fashion, and without the unnecessary masturbatory dedication to minutiae. 5. Divorce yourselves from Warner Bros. Yeah, this one is a big wish, and it'll never happen, but it would cure a lot of DC's ills.

Box Office Update: WB Has SMART Victory While HULK Drops - Jun 22, 2008 - 06:28pm
Huh. That surprised me. I thought for sure that Get Smart would finish as number two behind Hulk this week. I guess word of mouth killed it (Hulk) faster than I thought it would. This next weekend is going to have Wall-E as number 1, Wanted in the #2 spot, and I'll be nice and say Get Smart in the #3 spot. My guess is that Hulk is going to tumble big time (the bigger they are....)this next weekend and probably land in the #7 or 8 spot. At least that'll be better than Love Guru which will probably disappear from the top ten completely this time next week.

TV Wasteland: The Greatest American Hero Flies Again, or Not. - Jun 18, 2008 - 01:09pm
Two things: BSG isn't over, it's on its season break. New episodes will probably start back up again in August. Hence the 'Coming Soon' slapped over the previews at the end of last weeks episode. Second, "A Sound of Thunder" is the movie based on the Ray Bradbury story about time travel and how the smallest changes in the past can affect the future. It wasn't a very well done movie, but the story is a classic. It is NOT about 'huge tornadoes rip NYC apart after a giant storm moves in over the city'. Mania, seriously, if you guys need someone to cut and paste a synopsis of each genre related show for the week correctly, call me. I can get it done in about 15 minutes.

TRINITY #1 - Jun 17, 2008 - 12:13pm
DC still makes comics? I thought they went out of business after that whole 'Crisis' hooey a few years ago. :D

Cage, Nighy & Sutherland Join ASTROBOY - Jun 17, 2008 - 10:02am
Eww....Nicholas "Kiss of Death" Cage is in this one? I'm probably going to wait until DVD now.

Box Office: HULK Flies into Top Spot - Jun 16, 2008 - 01:07pm
Honestly, I didn't like this incarnation of the Hulk as much as the rest of you did. Maybe because I never liked the 70's tv series as an adult. As a kid, sure, I liked the tv show. As a teen and later an adult, I really despised the simplicity, the stupidity, and the formulaic layout to the show. Unfortunately, that's what the movie decided to go with as well. The CGI was also horrible. It never seemed that the CGI was part of the real world sets (due to bad animation and compositing), and it seemed that simple physics and gravity were ignored. So for me, the last fight scene looked like I was watching someone play a videogame. Hulk will probably stay on top next weekend, but barely. Especially since the two comedies coming out look terrible. The weekend after that, both WALL-E and Wanted are taking the number 1 and 2 spots respectively, and we'll probably see Hulk tumble into the 5,6, or 7 spot. The fourth week, will find Hulk out of the top 10 altogether.

New TV Spot Featuring Cameo in HULK - Jun 09, 2008 - 10:49am
There's actually another cameo in this movie of another Marvel superhero that I'm much more jonesed about. I won't say who it is, but we already got a very small glimpse of who it may be in the Iron Man movie. As for the movie itself, I haven't been this apathetic towards seeing a Marvel comic-based movie since Fantastic Four 2. The CGI still looks horrendous, and the CGI characters have no weight to them. They look floaty. Or as animators like to say, they have no mass to them. As far as I'm concerned, this movie is just a necessary precursor to an Avengers movie.

TV Wasteland: Fear Itself, Doomed to Fail - Jun 02, 2008 - 12:45pm
As I said in last week's comment section, The Venture Bros. are on Sunday nights at 11:30pm. New episodes. Season 3. Update your column.

TV Wasteland: The Writers' Strike Alters Viewing Habits Over the Long Term - May 30, 2008 - 04:05pm
Just wanted to add, you forgot to put down The Venture Bros. Season 3 premiere is on Sunday night! Finally a reason to watch Adult Swim again!

Comicscape: What is Owed? Continuity for New and Old Readers - May 23, 2008 - 12:39pm
Joey, so you say that DC rewards fans that follow the DC universe for years. Which DC universe would that be? Earth 1, Earth 2, or some other universe that was made up to explain really bad writing and a total disregard for continuity? As for the route Quesada took with Spidey....many people (including some who read and write this column) have mentioned that some titles in mainstream comics have become too serious. Too adult. That a lot of comics aren't for kids anymore, therefore you're not getting any new readers coming into the marketplace. With the movies that Marvel has been putting out, more and more children (I'm not talking about the 30-40 year olds that still live at home in their parent's basement or attics) are getting interested in those comics that spawned the movies and are going out to look for comic books that have the same kind of tone as the movies. It's a simple case of supply and demand. I get it, I've made my peace with it, and I enjoy quite a bit of it. And from what I see at my local comic book shops (there are two that I frequent), Marvel is easily outselling DC almost 3 to 1. So it's great that DC is 'rewarding fans' that chose to stick with the convoluted and changed-on-a-whim (see the Batman 'Hush' saga for reference) storyline, but financially I don't see DC doing all that well in the future. Because catering to an aging fanbase is a death sentence for any business.

Comicscape: What is Owed? Continuity for New and Old Readers - May 22, 2008 - 09:34pm
Frankly the differences between Marvel and DC retcons are that with Marvel, you don't need a team of sherpas to help you navigate through the bullshit. Seriously, Superboy from Earth Pi is pissed because Superdog from Earth Zippy hasn't looked at him correctly so he decides to destroy everything. There's a reason I've dumped EVERYTHING DC that has a superhero in it. Because the stories just plain suck. DC has knee-jerk reactions to fix problems when their readership drops. Take GL for example, when Judd Winick ran the title into the ground with the creation of Ion, DC had to bring Hal Jordan back from the dead in order to save it. And even that only worked temporarily. Marvel on the other hand has fun with their titles and their character's histories. Case in point, Spidey will be revisiting the clone saga coming up in a few issues. Yes, it will probably piss off even more Spidey 'fans', but frankly those 'fans' have been pissed off ever since JMS took over the title back in 2000. They just need a fairly strong enema to hopefully remove whatever crawled up inside them and died so long ago. And I say this as an actual Spidey fan going on 34 years now, who reads and enjoys Brand New Day. Comics don't have to be all serious, convoluted and boring. I mean that's what indie comics were made for.

George Lucas Talks INDY 5 - May 19, 2008 - 12:07pm
Definitely not interested in an action movie with LaDouche as the lead. He's deserves to be a very minor background character as that's about the range of his acting ability. As a lead actor? Nope, unless he's going back to work for Dizknee.

IRON MAN Takes Checkered Flag - May 11, 2008 - 08:08pm
I have a feeling that Iron Man will pull the #1 spot next weekend as well. Yeah, yeah, Narnia 2 is coming out, but I've been hearing A LOT of bad things about it. Not to mention that with the economy the way it is and gas prices on the rise, parents are making their kids choose only a few movies to see this summer. With Indy 4 coming out the week after Narnia 2, it's a fair bet that a lot of people will be saving their ducats to see that instead. I still have my apprehension about Indy 4 (mostly due to Shia Ladouche and George Lucas' involvement), and the fact that I haven't heard ANYTHING good or bad about it from my usual sources REALLY worries me. I'll still see it, but I may wait until the crowds have died down.

IRON MAN - May 04, 2008 - 09:25pm
It was a really good movie, but for me the highlight of the movie can be summed up in two words......... ****SPOILERS****** NICK FURY!!!!

Universal Unleases New HD HULK Trailer - May 01, 2008 - 12:13pm
Still looks a video game to me in regards of the CGI. Although, I've seen better cut scene sequences in video games than that final fight scene between Hulk and Abomination. Whoever did the lighting for the animation should probably be hung up from their nether regions. The CGI and real world actors do not look like they are a part of the same scene when they are standing in the same frame. There is no weight to the CGI characters, and there is barely any secondary motion in the character animation. I may just wait until this thing hits video (which I'm suspecting it will do fairly quickly) before viewing it.

Empire Features New 3-D HULK - Apr 19, 2008 - 01:48pm
Still looks like a video game to me. If my friend can't get free passes, maybe I'll see this at a bargain matinee. Maybe.

Harrison Ford Open to a Fifth INDIANA - Apr 17, 2008 - 08:18am
I have a prediction that this movie will have a lot of recreated scenes from the three previous Indiana Jones movies. I'm getting that vibe from just the pictures alone, and it's starting to disturb me.

X-Files 2 Title Revealed by Carter - Apr 17, 2008 - 08:15am
Alternate titles that didn't make the cut: X-Files 2: The Quest For More Money. X-Files 2: It's Not Like We Had Careers Anyway. X-Files 2: Now With a Smaller Budget!

All-Star Superman #10 - Apr 16, 2008 - 11:48am
I stopped reading this series around issue #6. I found the stories didn't feel connected to each other from issue to issue, even though this is supposed to be one big story. I may thumb through this when it comes out in trade form, but for now it's dropped from my pull list (along with pretty much everything DC except for Jonah Hex and Bat Lash). I tried to like this series, but the pacing is just badly done.

Merchandising: The Search for More Money! - Apr 16, 2008 - 09:32am
Okay, the new page format? S-U-C-K-S!! Either use the screen width, or start shortening the articles, because my scroll button is starting to smoke from all the scrolling I have to do. First rule of journalism (and web design) is that people will not go beyond the first fold nor will they scroll down if they aren't interested. This is why you need to start using the screen width to your advantage instead of blocking articles into 1/4 or 1/3 of the screen size.

Hellboy and Samwise Go ECO - Apr 15, 2008 - 04:37pm
More recently, sounds kinda like "Over the Hedge".

New Poster for Norton's HULK - Apr 15, 2008 - 04:36pm
Meh. Looks like a combo of the old tv show (which I know Norton has a major chubby for), and a bad video game cover. Combine that with all the rumors I'm hearing about from people not really liking the F/X, to the weird pacing, and this movie is sinking down the list of movies I was looking forward to seeing this summer.

New Line Axed By Time Warner - Apr 15, 2008 - 03:35pm
Since we're bitching about the layout here, it looks fairly haphazard and geared toward showing more of the ads than the Mania site content. Frankly, I don't like it.

New X-FILES 2 Photos Pop Up Online - Apr 13, 2008 - 10:40am
http://pwtenny.newsvine.com/_news/2007/05/04/701326-lost-to-be-canceled-in-two-years It was the hot rumor going around after season 2. Instead, the writers 'decided to set an end date.' Either way, I watched the first season of Lost, saw no direction, no rhyme or reason, and promptly dumped it to the curb. I guess I didn't drink enough of the Kool-Aid to fall in with the rest of the 'it'll get better' cult. *shrug* To each their own.

New X-FILES 2 Photos Pop Up Online - Apr 12, 2008 - 10:17am
This movie would have been good.....eight years ago. Now, it looks more like an effort to revive some careers (namely Carter and Duchovney). You can almost hear the surgeon yelling "CLEAR!!" before applying the AED paddles to the chest of this one. Oh, and to quell the Lost vs X-Files arguement, if Lost is so great, how come they're ending the series (after the threat of being canceled) after next season? Seems like a 'classic' show would have more legs than that. Especially on a network like ABC. Never got into 'Lost' because it was painfully obvious that the writers had no direction or idea as to where the story was going, and the X-Files (I found) lost any kind of credibility to its mythos after season 3.

Secret Invasion: Implications and Musings - Apr 09, 2008 - 10:31pm
Honestly, I think the guys at Marvel are a bit smarter than people are giving them credit for. I don't think Secret Invasion is an excuse for a massive retcon. It may clear up a few points of confusion, but I'm pretty sure it's not a major retcon. Only a company that had flagging sales *cough*DC*cough* would do something so stupid as resetting their entire universe (twice) just to correct mistakes that the editor's themselves could have prevented. And say what you will about Marvel, but their continuity isn't as badly screwed as those other guys.

Cartoon Network Upfronts Look Promising - Apr 07, 2008 - 04:03pm
Joey, Spectacular Spidey is really well done. The storylines are taken from the old Stan Lee/Steve Ditko run, but spruced up a bit to update them into the 21st Century. AND Kingpin is being setup to be Spidey's main villain, just like in the comics of old. Good stuff. As for The Batman, the first two seasons sucked because they were trying for the kiddie demographic. That didn't work, so season three delved into some darker (or meaner) aspects of the Batman franchise, and brought the stories up to almost B:TAS quality. Again, it wasn't the direction the WB execs wanted to go, so they canned the series. My bet is that Brave and the Bold lasts about 2 maybe 3 seasons before they sh!tcan it as well.

Cartoon Network Upfronts Look Promising - Apr 07, 2008 - 09:17am
For those in the know, WB has only themselves to blame for their animated programming. The execs at WB will not let an animated show run past five seasons. This why The Batman was canceled after this last season (season 5). Also, the WB execs don't realize that by delving into the DC comics lore for animated shows for children, that most of that lore has very dark undertones that you're going to have to touch on sooner or later for any of the classic stories to make sense. This is the reason why Legion of Superheroes was canceled after only two seasons. Both shows pulled in respectable numbers, but the WB execs want something that's mindless and harmless (see the majority of Cartoon Network's daytime programming for reference) so they can run more commercials.

New Pics for HELLBOY II, Trailer Online - Apr 04, 2008 - 10:52am
Anyone who's anyone knows that the best sequel is "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo". With that said, this trailer kicks some serious ass. After seeing all the production art that was released on the Hellboy2 website, I was waiting to see what the stuff was going to look like in action. I was not disappointed!

Common Says Fans Have Say for LEAGUE - Mar 27, 2008 - 12:24pm
I'd have to say 'nay'. 1. WB has their collective heads firmly entrenched in their asses, so outside of the Nolan-run Batman franchise, everything they touch turns to shit. 2. George Miller is not a comic book fan, and therefore will make a crap movie. We've seen it with Mark Steven Johnson, Tim Story, and Singer. If you don't have an established director that is already passionate about the material, you're going to get a crappy product. 3. So many ideas flying around in the script. This is a direct result of everyone from points 1 and 2 trying to get their 'vision' shoehorned into this craptacular movie. Spidey 3 is a prime example of when the suits try to step in and add more to a movie that doesn't need it. 4. The casting list. Wow. I haven't seen a cast this bad since the old scrapped Justice League tv show. I have an idea, how about using actual ACTORS to act in the parts? I know it's a novel idea, and I know that Chris Nolan isn't having that much success with this formula in the Batman franchise, but it just may work. (Yes, that's called 'sarcasm'.)

No More FANTASTIC FOUR?? - Mar 26, 2008 - 11:26am
Miscast: Sue Storm. Reed Richards. Victor Von Doom. Pretty much the core characters in all the FF storylines. With three *extremely* weak actors in the most important roles, combined with a writer/director that only knows how to rehash other people's movies, you get two pretty bad and mostly forgettable flicks. Considering that Pixar's The Incredibles is almost a complete 'borrowing' of the FF comic book franchise, you'd think that Story would have been at least competent enough to ape *that* successful movie into an enjoyable FF movie. But those of us that have seen the movies (AND read the comics) know otherwise.

In Hoc Signo Vinces - Mar 22, 2008 - 12:24am
Seriously, is this some sort of weird serial that's only for the benefit of one person? Because it makes no sense, and seems like a waste of bandwidth.

Berg Confirmed for DUNE - Mar 18, 2008 - 12:30pm
Great. Another four hour long mega-movie. Let me guess, there will be five, no six!, extended cut special release super duper fantastic director's cuts DVDs planned for this as well? Can Hollywood actually move on to sh!t that *hasn't* been made before? Hell, if you want to rape some more sci-fi novels for movie ideas, there's The Stainless Steel Rat series, for starters. Seriously. They need to start making stuff in movies that hasn't been done already. Hell, they're even remaking Robocop! This sh!t has just got to stop.

Raising the Serpent - Mar 16, 2008 - 11:46am
Well, *my* serpent hasn't been raised by this article.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN - Mar 09, 2008 - 10:58am
Honestly, if the movie had ended at the end of Anton's last scene, the movie would have had a better ending. The Tommy Lee Jones ending was pointless, boring, out of step with the timing of the rest of the movie, and just plain stupid. With that said, I agree with the review. Without Bardem, this movie would have been boring and listless. As it was, I still only consider this movie worth a video rental, not a ticket price. You can actually see where the two directors take control in different parts in the movie. Very disjointing, and disappointingly amateur for two directors that have been in movies for as long as the Cohen brothers have been.

First HULK Teaser Trailer Online - Mar 08, 2008 - 08:32pm
I actually like the first Hulk movie as well. It fit in with the comics very well, AND it wasn't the stupidity of the tv show. Yes, yes, I know everyone loves Bixby and Ferrigno, but those shows were just crap. When I heard that this version of the Hulk was going to be more like the tv show, I cringed. Subsequently, I haven't been too jazzed about seeing this one. Maybe a trailer will make me change my mind. Then again, maybe not. We'll find out on Wed.

Michelle Rodriquez Back in FURIOUS 4 - Mar 06, 2008 - 01:48am
The plot detail for this one was leaked a few months ago. Including a major spoiler about Rodriguez's character. I'm not going to say what it is, but it doesn't sound like a bad way to get the band back together.

Producers Answer LOST Questions - Mar 04, 2008 - 01:16pm
I wonder if the article would have been better if the writers of the show were asking the producers what was going on with the plot? :D

Sneak Peek at SG1: Ark of Truth - Mar 04, 2008 - 01:13pm
Samson, the show started off on Showtime, not Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi just picked it up since they didn't have to do any tweaking to it. I understand that Farscape fans migrated to SG-1 with the addition of Browder and Black, but I have to disagree that it made the show better with them added. If the show had been made better with their addition, it wouldn't have been canceled after only two seasons with them on it. I know I stopped watching after the first season of Browder's addition, just because I really started to dislike his character. He never fully fit into the group, and he became annoying. Kind of like when Oliver was added to the last season of The Brady Bunch. That level of annoying. Black was okay, and she fit into the group better, but she needed a bit of toning down.

Sneak Peek at SG1: Ark of Truth - Mar 03, 2008 - 11:07pm
Meh. When Richard Dean Anderson left the show, it should have ended. Instead we got Ben 'Stiff-As-Cardboard' Browder as a poor man's stand-in. No thanks.

New Poster for WALL-E Online - Feb 29, 2008 - 07:03pm
The eyes come from a pair of binoculars, and the body is a compacter. Add tank treads to get over mounds of garbage, and arms and you have Wall-E. Simple design that isn't taken from Johnny Five. AND after having seen clips at both 2007 and 2008 Wondercons and 2007 Comiccon, I can say that this movie is going to be unlike anything people have seen from Pixar.

Jon Favreau Talks IRON MAN - Feb 26, 2008 - 05:10pm
I was able to ask Jon if he was going to be working with Vince again (this was at Wondercon, and only because someone took my War Machine question). He said he and Vince were going to be in the flick "Four Christmases" where they were going to cage wrestle and where Robert Duvall was going to play their father. That also sounds kick ass and funny.

China Ends Ban of Hollywood Films - Feb 26, 2008 - 12:09pm
So they end the ban with a Nic cage movie and a Roland Emmerich CGI-fest? I guess Hollywood wants to be banned in China forever after those two P.O.S. movies debut.

GOTHAM KNIGHT DVD Details Online - Feb 25, 2008 - 02:12pm
Having seen New Frontiers (yesterday) and having read the comic that it's based on, the comic is infinitely better than the movie. The movie was a bit heavy-handed and cheesy in quite a few spots, and a lot of it was unintentional humor. It was weird because they start off with multiple scenes of death and dying within the first five minutes, yet have this odd overly-jingoistic (which went straight into parody) feeling later in the movie. Anyway, with that said, I'm looking forward to Gotham Knight. I saw the trailer for it at Wondercon, and it looks very nice.

First Footage from X-FILES 2 - Feb 25, 2008 - 09:51am
Actually, they were looking for the remnants of a showbiz career. Either that, or an entertaining plot.

First Footage from X-FILES 2 - Feb 25, 2008 - 09:31am
Actually, people were cheering and screaming when they put the freakin' name tags on the panel table. Lame. Honestly, when Chris Carter said that Fox called and said that if they wanted to do a sequel it was 'now or never' and that everyone else was on board, I thought to myself, 'Well yeah, since none of them have a career *outside* of the X-Files franchise....' Well, except for Gillian Anderson. The sequel needs to be waaaaaay more entertaining than the first movie. Especially if they want to make a franchise out of it.

First Bloody Pic from LOST BOYS 2 - Feb 22, 2008 - 01:57am

New IRON MAN Trailer on Lost Tonight - Feb 21, 2008 - 03:10pm
Is tonight's episode the one where they build a radio out of coconuts, but Gilligan's highjinks ruin a rescue attempt...again?

HULK Trailer in March? Marvel Release Lineup - Feb 19, 2008 - 01:55pm
Wondercon (little sister to ComicCon) is this weekend in San Francisco. There is a Marvel panel on Saturday. Since everything has been been pretty hush-hush as of late, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a 'surprise' showing of the Hulk trailer on sat. I'll let youse guys know if I see it. :D

Military Experiment Goes Wrong in URGE - Feb 19, 2008 - 07:07am
Sounds like the old Dean Koontz novel "Moonlight Cove".

Cool teaser, but Shia still doesn't feel right in it.

JUMPER - Feb 13, 2008 - 10:41pm
great, double post...:P

JUMPER - Feb 13, 2008 - 10:41pm
Funny, I remember first seeing it in Superman 2. But then again.... All sarcasm aside, it was announced way back when Doug Liman jumped on board that this was to be a trilogy. So, I'm not surprised at the set up for a sequel. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

CLONE WARS Hitting Theaters First - Feb 12, 2008 - 12:01am

I took guesses at the last three, but the first seven are fairly easy.

Redband Trailer for FORGETTING SARAH - Feb 05, 2008 - 07:06am
Metalwater, since you obviously didn't read the article, I'll sum it up for you. The guys that made those other movies are PRODUCING this one. That's it. Different director, different writer. The one thing I didn't like about the trailer was the use of an old Robin Williams joke from his stand up routine. Other than that, it looked decent.

Amy Adams is Enchanted in MUSEUM 2 - Feb 05, 2008 - 07:00am
Damn double posts. :P

Amy Adams is Enchanted in MUSEUM 2 - Feb 05, 2008 - 06:59am
I think I saw this back in the 80's, only then it was titled 'Mannequin'.

The 5 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Comic Strips - Feb 01, 2008 - 11:51am

Jimmy Bennett is Young Kirk in STAR TREK - Jan 29, 2008 - 06:40pm
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this movie is going to suc-diddily-uck.

New 'Enhanced' LOST S3 Finale Reairs? - Jan 27, 2008 - 01:21pm
They've decided to add a plot?

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: The Turk - Jan 24, 2008 - 09:44pm
We've learned that the FBI agent chasing them ISN'T a terminator (see, the dogs in the gangbangers house didn't bark like they did when Cameron was there). I'm also starting to think that Cameron may be a true cyborg (human brain in a robot body) and may be the reason why she's acting so weird all the time (human at times, machine at others). I'm also getting a feeling that Cameron has another mission that she hasn't stated yet, but is moving around the periphery of trying to accomplish. Hmm....maybe Cameron is Sarah from the future? That would be weird, but interesting. The series definitely hasn't found it's groove, but a lot of shows in their first season haven't done so.

Update: Ledger's Autopsy Is Inconclusive - Jan 22, 2008 - 08:47pm
It's also being reported that he was ill with pneumonia. Add to that in a recent interview he said he was having trouble sleeping (he said that taking Ambien only let him sleep for about an hour), it looks like it's just a very tragic death due to illness. Very sad, and he will be missed greatly. I felt he was just tapping into his potential to be one of the best actors of his generation. To have his life cut this short by illness reminds me of when we lost Jim Henson to pneumonia. Condolences to his family.

HD STAR TREK Teaser Online - Jan 22, 2008 - 12:10am
Honestly, it wasn't anymore exciting or inventive than the fan made teaser trailer that was put up at JoBlo.com last week. And the fan made one just used footage and voiceovers from the movies. Seems JJ could have saved himself some money and just done the same thing considering the yawn inspiring trailer he pooped out here.

Apple iTunes and Studios Begin Movie Rentals - Jan 15, 2008 - 02:17pm
Netflix announced that they were doing this a couple of days before Apple. Of course, they've been doing it for a few months now, but they're expanding their selection.

Amazing Spider-Man #546 - Jan 15, 2008 - 01:58pm
All I know is, is that Quesada isn't that stupid. Whatever MJ whispered to Mephisto in OMD *will* have ramifications on this story, and once it plays out, I don't think people are going to be talking about it in such a negative way as they are now. Yes, Peter wasn't acting like himself, he was acting like a man that has lost just about everything, and was pulling at straws looking for a way out. Unfortunately, just like real life. And just like real life, he (and MJ) made a huge mistake. Maybe I'm more forgiving in this decision by Quesada because I haven't seen anything done wrong with SM in the last 5 years so far. The story (to me) is still entertaining, and when it quits being entertaining then I'll drop it.

Evil Dead #1 - Jan 15, 2008 - 01:45pm
Evil Dead 2 is the continuation of what happens to Ash out in the woods by himself. So about 1/3 the end of Evil Dead, and the rest is Ash by his lonesome fighting deadites.

Amazing Spider-Man #546 - Jan 15, 2008 - 12:27pm
Hmm....maybe it's just me, but I kind of want to see where they're going to take this story. MJ obviously whispered something crucial into Mephisto's ear that will have ramifications later in the story arc, maybe even something that would break the deal down the line reverting everything back to how it was. Unfortunately, everytime Marvel tries something new with one of their characters, people feel the need to protest, stamp their feet, sign petitions and whine. It's only been one issue. We don't know to what extent things have been changed, and even if it's permanent. The same thing happened when JMS wrote the Spider-God arc, or the Gwen's kids arc, or the Aunt May finding out arc, or the Peter and MJ getting back together arc. Frankly, fanboys whine at any small change so frequently, I'm pretty sure Quesada is deaf to it by now. I know I am.

Evil Dead #1 - Jan 15, 2008 - 09:20am
Meh. I got it, I read it, and I felt like it was a rehash of the first two movies, only with a voiceover by Ash looking back. Not anything terribly new or interesting. In fact, I'm thinking of dumping it from my pull list. Mind you, I get *every* Evil Dead related comic being published (I believe this one makes it number 3 currently being put out (Jason/Freddy/Ash being #1 and The Long Way Home being #2)), so this one just seems like Dark Horse wants to try to get in on Dynamite's action. Unfortunately, it didn't impress me, and the digital artwork really didn't work for me either. I'd have to give this a D rating.

SUPERMAN on Hold, JLA Trouble Continues - Jan 12, 2008 - 10:04am
Things that need to be changed for the next movie: 1. No Bryan Singer. 2. Cut WAAAAY back on the gay/Christian god allegory. We get it. He's an alien. He's different. 3. Lose the Jerry Springer aspect of the deadbeat dad. 4. Less super-stalking. It's just plain creepy. 5. NO LEX LUTHOR!! 6. NO LEX LUTHOR!! (Just in case you didn't hear me the first time.) Hell, at this point, I'd almost welcome a Superman 3 plotline. At least it was still more watchable than Returns. 7. The mini-bikini briefs. Look at a Superman comic book, make the suit look like that. 'Nuff said there. 8. Supervillains. Metallo ain't going to cut it. Neither will Parasite. You need either Brainiac or Bizarro at this point to pull this franchise out of the shitter. 9. No Zod. No Ursula, etc. In fact, why not say no retreads of past movie plots, dialog, or villains. 10. Get an actual writer to write the script. Hollywood hacks just aren't cutting it (as we saw by the over 50% of recycled dialog in Returns). The Donner movies had Mario Puzo (writer of the Godfather) as their scribe.

Cube Wants a 'Hardcore' A-TEAM Movie - Jan 10, 2008 - 09:57pm
Bruce Willis as Hannibal. Brad Pitt as Face, but since he probably wouldn't do it I can see John Cusack as Face. Terry Crews (the dad from 'Everybody Hates Chris) as B.A. Neil Patrick Harris as Murdock.

Redband Trailer for THE SIGNAL - Jan 09, 2008 - 02:25am
Um, actually this is the EXACT plot for Stephen King's book, Cell. Only, instead of trying to 'save the woman he loves', the hero in the book is trying to save his son.

Nominee "No Shows" at the GOLDEN GLOBES - Jan 05, 2008 - 05:36pm
YAAAAAY!!!! One less boring, pointless, 15+ hr awards show on tv. I guess NBC will just have to go and schedule some more 'reality' programming.

Navigating the Mania Map - Jan 05, 2008 - 05:30pm
^^And this is what happens when you go off your meds, kids.

Navigating the Mania Map - Jan 05, 2008 - 12:09pm
I'd like to buy a coherent sentence, Pat. If this is supposed to be like the current viral marketing trend of making your viewers work for a crappy photo or another stupid clue, then I can tell you it's not going to work here. But hey, feel free to keep posting inane commentary without a frame of reference.

Routh is Still SUPERMAN for WB - Jan 05, 2008 - 12:02pm
Honestly, by the time WB actually figures out how to make another Superman movie, it'll be 2012. So all this talk about Routh is just that, talk. Remember how long it took to make that sh*t sandwich called Superman Returns? 10 years. And that was mostly due to WB infighting. The sequel is going to be just as long and drawn out a process. If Routh hasn't started a viable acting career by then, then he'll return to the role because he'll be cheap (just like the WB).

I AM LEGEND 2 On the Horizon - Jan 03, 2008 - 02:29pm
Ha! Saw this from a mile away. This one won't be getting any of my money.

Prelude: Geburah is a Bitch - Dec 29, 2007 - 11:21am
I believe I speak for a lot of people here when I ask the following question about this 'article': WTF?

2007: The Year in Review, Part One - Dec 28, 2007 - 10:24am
Uh, guys, Marvel Zombies 2 is actually pretty good. Oh, and the zombie movie parody was already done a few years back...Shaun of the Dead.

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 12:39pm
TheSleeper= Spiderr? Quite possibly. Same M.O. Same fanatical disposition over something he has no control over. Maybe we'll start getting posts of links to some archaic interview that Cameron did back in the 80's about his version of Aliens 3. Isn't that next on the agenda?

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:54am
TheSleeper wrote: "And let that be your final (and I mean really final, not like the fake final word you had earlier) word on the subject for the night. Please! You've contributed very little to this discussion, anyway." HA! At least I've seen the movie and commented on *the movie*. Unlike you.

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:44am
I tend to make my own decision about movies and don't rely on critics to make them for me. Only sheep allow others to make their decisions for them. I've seen the movie and made my decision. If TheSleeper wants to base all his movie viewing on audience test survey results and critics reviews without actually having seen anything for himself, well who am I stand in the way of his ignorance?

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:34am
I'm still waiting for the guy to say something witty. Or even smart for that matter. Instead we just get a parroted, "14%! 14%!" "Paul Anderson sucks! SQUAWK!" "Sleeper-want-a-cracker!"

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:19am
Re. 59 TheSleeper wrote: "That was just weak. " Still no discussion of the movie, nor any points of the movie that validate your previous statements, nor any indication that you've actually even seen the movie. Tell me again why I should listen to your fanboy opinion?

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 01:03am
*Sigh* TheSleeper wrote: "The logical inconsistencies and plotholes abound (The movie's pretty much one big WTF?), but seeing that Paul WS Anderson had a role in writing the script, it could be no other way. This movie sucks, and in the end it isn't even fun on a bad level, because you know with the source material it could have been so much more." Hmm...I don't see anything constructive there, nor do I see any evidence that the writer has even seen the material since the evidence is lacking. TheSleeper also wrote: "Ugh. Dalton, aren't you the guy who wrote that godawful review for Live Free or Die Hard here? Can't believe you're defending this POS. Actually, it all makes sense now--you're from the bizarro world! Guys, don't even bother picking this dud up on DVD. Use the alternatives if you have to watch it at all, or better yet, don't watch it and use the time you save to e-mail Fox and demand that whatever studio executive who decided to greenlight this thing be sh*t-canned ASAP." Hmm...still no discussion of the movie, nor any evidence of having seen it. Argument is still invalid. TheSleeper wrote: "2) Who's payroll am I on? No one's, tool! I'm just a fan who's still dumbfounded that Fox chose AVP and Paul WS Anderson, rather than going with James Cameron and his idea for an Aliens movie." Ah, now we get to it. Just another angry fanboy. Then the rest of it degenerates into this argument. TheSleeper wrote: "I've made plenty of legitimate arguments DJ, which you've ignored in favor of making your own hypocritical ad hominem attack against me, that I'm just some bashing troll." Where are your 'legitimate arguments'? All I see is angry fanboy/troll posting. Seems that you're butt-hurt that they didn't follow the 20+ year old comic book series, and that Cameron had no intention of going back to the Aliens franchise at this point in his career. Dude. Get over it. Slap some salve on your hurt butt, dress up in your favorite pinafore, and whack off to the fantasy of whatever Alien/Predator movie you want to imagine. Either that, or go back to trolling on AICN.

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 12:13am
Prove me wrong, troll.

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 27, 2007 - 12:08am
So you're saying that you're an average run-of-the-mill troll. I get that now. I'll leave you to your trollishness. Oh, and I Am Legend sucked ass. Any movie that films four different endings because they listen to audience focus groups is just not worth the time. Just like it's just not worth the time arguing with a troll named TheSleeper.

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 26, 2007 - 11:38pm
Still didn't answer the question, and since this isn't rotten tomatoes, no one cares about your '14%'. Care to try again? Or are you just going to try and dazzle us with your third grade wit?

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 26, 2007 - 10:38pm
So you haven't seen it. Great. So now you can STFU. We'll consider your 'opinion' when it's based on an actual viewing of the movie. Until then, go back to AICN and troll over there for a while.

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 26, 2007 - 10:11pm
Simple question to #39 (AKA TheSleeper): Have you seen the movie Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem?

ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM - Dec 26, 2007 - 03:39pm
Let me guess, you didn't see it, yet you still have an 'opinion' about it, right? At least I've *seen* all the movies I'm talking about. AND in case you can't read (which is obvious you can't), I was talking about the *endings* of those movies in my comment. If you don't like what I said, tough.

Some New Pics for Alba's EYE - Dec 26, 2007 - 03:14pm
Jebus! Can't they just title a movie "Deaf, Dumb, Blind, and Immobile" starring Alba just so no human being is ever again subjected to her 'acting' abilities? It would be two hours of Alba just floating there so that fanboys can have something to jerk it to.
