The Not So Incredible Slightly Less Than Mediocre Hulk
By: daforceDate: Saturday, June 14, 2008
Horrible. Honestly, I'd have to say that Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull Fuck was slightly more entertaining than this exercise in tedium.
Really, REALLY bad CGI with no weight or physics given to the characters. The two big action scenes could have been scenes from a videogame, that's how boring they were. Not to mention that all the 'action' scenes (all three of them) are all shot in darkness (even the one that takes place out in the open, in the middle of a sunny day) to hide the bad FX done by Rhythm & Hues.
Ed Norton as Banner was Ed Norton grimacing and trying to look sad a lot through the whole movie. Probably his worst performance yet. Liv Tyler is supposed to be a scientist working at a university, but comes off as a stoned college student...complete with the same emotional range one would find in a stoned college student. Tim Roth.....wow...just wow. Look, I'm sneering, see? That sneer tells you I'm supposed to be the bad guy. No reason given as to why he wants to turn into the Abomination and rampage through the city. No character development AT ALL.
William Hurt. At least he showed more emotional range than the rest of the cast put together. Still, no character development, no sense of what's pushing him, what's driving him. Very much like the rest of the movie, hollow. Empty.
The one small, shining star in this crapfest? Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns. And he's in the movie for about 10 minutes. Even the much balleyhooed cameo in this flick sucked and was present just to push another Marvel franchise.
People give the Ang Lee version crap for being too psychological, but this turd that just came out falls on the complete other end of the scale and just winds up being dumb and forgettable. Save your money for The Dark Knight which comes out next month. Or, if you really need to see a comic book related flick, go see Iron Man again to see how something can be done right.
Oh, and in case you're still on the fence about wasting your money on this thing, I've got one more reason why it sucks.
This movie was based off of the 70's tv series. It didn't evolve much past the plot of the 70's tv series, and is about as exciting as the 70's tv series. Especially since it looks like anyone even being exposed to Banner's blood can become a hulk, and frankly that premise is just plain stupid.
