Leading star Matt Damon has mentioned being open to the idea a few times these past few months but after a recent Variety article, it seems the question was thrown his direction again while on the red carpet for the Sony Ericsson Empire Awards. Here's what Damon and director Greengrass had to say to Empire Online.

"We’ve just kind of been amused by the whole thing," said Matt Damon of the rumour suddenly circulating everywhere after a Variety article last week. "I think it’s one of these stories that has a life of it’s own. Not that we’re against it, we’re all for doing a fourth movie but it means coming up with a good story. There are a lot of things that would have to happen before we would sign up for it."

Ya know I used to think Matt Damon was like a Streisand but I think its really just the cast and crew of PIGFORMERS that are Streisands.

I can guess bad box office movies would be one of them. Should not be a problem. You know he is going to need a paycheck movie someday he will be back.

wait ten years Matt, then comeback to do a 4th installment of Bourne,if done sooner it will bomb...

SONYMANswallows • Mar 10, 2008, 08:08am •
Why would it bomb if he does not wait 10 years?

I don't know that it would bomb. I'm sure it would do well just off the strength of the last ones. It would probably suck though. Bourne's story ran its course, and quite well in my opinion. Give it a rest. No need to force a story out there. The later books take place well after the initial 3, after Bourne has settled into his new/old life and became a college professor. I'm with bigthor on this one. I'd like to see Bourne again, just not in a crap flick squeezed out painfully herniating something.

Well considering the films were not close to the books very much I think a former adversary gunning for Jason would be good. There has to be someone wanting revenge against him. Does not have to be the Jackal which may be owned by someone else property wise since that Bruce Willis, Richard Gere and Jack Black film was only 12 years ago.

How about the girl from the second film goes on a vendetta for what Jason did. She does not go after Jason because he was a victim as well. But Jason realizes its her and has to stop her before she becomes as damaged as him.

Who has Marshall and Damon's email? This is gold.

Bourne needs to be older, just like Rambo or Mclane, when they came back, wait at least 5 or 7 years, come up with something original , a new challenge for an older Bourne....

I think that you are ALL right. The last three was very well rounded and finished itself nicely. No loose strings or plots.
To do another one would really warrant another trilogy. With the effort of the first three and the entire story spanning the trilogy a lone fourth film would come off as a desperate attempt at making money off of the success of the first three. The Die Hard and Rambo series were all individual movis centered around one character, and maybe one or two ansilary characters. To be done right it would have to be another trilogy and I think the ideas mentioned above would be perfect.
-Bourne older and settled into a new life.
-An old or new enemy gunning for Bourne.
-Bourne defending his new life, whiling fighting off this new threat.
-Bourne loses new life and is presumed dead.
-Bourne comes back and hunts enemy to no end.

Sounds kind of "re-done" but these are the things that worked before so naturally they'll work again.

In other words "Gee, another chance to make $30 million up front and a % of the backend...yeah, that'll work".

The Bourne Ultimatum was a well made movie. The problem??? It was virtually a remake of The Bourne Supremacy!!!

For the next Bourne film they need to do 3 things to change-up the Bourne franchise and freshen things up!!!: One...let's get rid of the motif of Bourne being on the run...we have seen that, mission accomplished. Two, have Jason Bourne approached by Joan Allen and his old agency...who enlist him to execute a mission for them...that being the rescue of the Analyst played by Julia Stiles...who has been kidnapped. And Three, it should be revealed that Jason Bourne and Julia Stiles' character were once romantically involved before his brain washing. She has the keys to unraveling the whole of his past, not just parts of it...and represents his true lost romance. Along the way of his desperate search, he begins to have flashbacks of his past spent with her and remembers something critical...something that may lead him to the perpetrator(s) of the kidnapping.

Those familiar with the Bourne saga know that Jason Bourne has to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend in the book version of The Bourne Supremacy, so that storyline would be a perfect fit here to bring some new life to the film franchise!!!
