Daniel Craig Updates on BOND 22

While Daniel Craig attended the GOLDEN COMPASS press junket in London, some press had a chance to pose some questions his way. Two freelance reporters, Heather Newgen & Edward Douglas, wanted to clear the air with Craig on past JAMES BOND 22 news. While talking to him, they  confirmed the timeframe for the setting of this film, the WGA strike not affecting the film, the humor aspect of the next film be based off a bad quote, etc .

Here's a sample of it provided by Comingsoon;

CS: Is the next script based on Ian Fleming's work at all?
Craig: There's nothing left as far as I know.

CS: Have they decided not to adapt any of the John Gardner's novels?
Craig: I don't think they ever would, because they don't own them. |I don't know what the deal is with that. We're taking the original idea. The funny thing is if you read Fleming's (novels), which I try to plow through occasionally, there's an awful lot of story lines that have never been used because obviously the films are based on the books. There are still ideas that we can sort of pluck from.

CS: This new movie starts right after "Casino Royale" ends?

Craig: That's the plan.

CS: I read somewhere you're going to inject a bit more humor into the next movie.
Craig: I was lying. I said, "Yes, it's going to be funny." I don't remember saying that, but if I did, I'm not going to shy away from the fact the occasionally there should be humor. I just don't like gags. I don't like written gags. That's not the way I've ever liked working and I don't think that's funny myself.

CS: "Casino Royale" marked a welcome return to the style and sensibilities of the earlier Bond movies, rather than the jokey more recent movies.
Craig: The idea of having jokes in Bond I don't think is completely wrong, but I think the jokes to need to come out tension. There needs to be moments of humor because we've all been sitting on the edge of our seat. I don't think you should write gags in Bond.

He sure knows how to handle the Bond role, that's for sure. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him in Bond 22.

I will say, though, that I still think it would have been interesting to see Gerard Butler as Bond.

I love Conerey, loved the under rated Dalton, But I agree Daniel Craig is the best bond ever...in the second best bond movie ever ( sorry I half to give it up to Golden Eye.)

Naw' fellas. This will really start something. I've said it before, I'll say it again; The last Bond movie was a good movie. Just not a good Bond film. I miss the gadgets. I miss the over the top villains. I miss the exotic women with overtly sexual names.

They could have kept all those fantastical elements, The only thing they needed to do was get better scripts. Improve the writing and you would have had a great Bond movie. Not just the Bourne knock off it turned out to be. Like I've said before, I grew up just outside of Detroit. If I want gritty realism, I could just turn on the evening news or go for a short drive to the east side. Fantasy is a terrible thing to waste. Too much realism can be a bad thing.

I agree with some elements of the thread here. I think Connery's appeal was he was able to play the cool of the high tech gadgets that was missing from Casino Royale. Craig could work that cool with the gadgets. Also I think SOME humor could be placed here but not the self-conscious hammy one liners mugged for laughs like in the Moore films. Something cynical that Craig can use as a throw away line. I blame the writers of the Brosnan movies for ruining Brosnan's chances of becoming more than natty pretty boy. Craig has the chance now to really give Bond the rough-hewn cool of an assassin.

guys, i am telling you, the first idea from producers when they cast greg, was to change the franchise. Completely, and they did it rigth, that s bond it s one of the best I totaly agree, but you will see step by step they will return to the original bond coktail, gadget, girls, fun and tuxedo...you will see !!!

exfan is correct, but it is not really a big change. The first film was a reboot of sorts, and Bonds first mission was a little lo-tech... now in this film he is the British secret services established agent, they can bring in more gadgets and more of what we love about Bond, without ruining what they built in 21.

I agree with Exfan & Madmanic,,,this is like his origin story. They aren't going to pimp him out for his first outing. And he had some gadgets in Casino Royale, mostly in the car, but were still there. I am SOOOO glad they wnet back to this. THe last few BOnd movies, while they were fun, were just way too over the top. And Daniel Craig is tied with Conery for the best Bond, in my opnion.

I need more gadgets and a good theme song and I am good. Soundtracks are important to me long after a movie is over I can go back to old soundtracks over and over again.

Lets not get carried away here with Craig as Bond. Craig was decent the movie itself was good. But in order its Connery, Bronsan and then Craig or Moore depending on what you like.
