Danny Huston has been cast as a young William Stryker for the upcoming spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine, reports Joblo. Thespian Bryan Cox originally played the character in X2: X-Men United. Hugh Jackman returns as the clawed hero while Liev Schreiber takes over as Logan's nemesis Victor Creed/Sabertooth, originally played by Tyler Mane. Kodi Smit-McPhee is also on board as a younger Logan in the 20th Century Fox production, which is currently under way in New Zealand. Gavin Hood is directing, based off a screenplay by David Benioff.

Two other sites are reporting other possible news for the film. FilmSchoolRejects have received a tip about a possible character cameo which is spoilerish so beware before hitting the link. IESB is also reporting that actress Lynn Collins is up for the Silver Fox character. When we can get confirmations for both, we'll pass it along.

Plot Concept: Leading up to the events of "X-Men," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will hit theaters May 1, 2009.

The new Silver Fox?

Hmm...not quite sure about him being Stryker so I'll reserve judgment. However though, he looks like a young Jack Nicholson. Cover him in white makeup and red lips and he might be an inside candidate to replace the late Heath Ledger as Joker in a future Batman installment. Plus I would drop X-Men Origins from the title. I would either call it Wolverine: Origins or Wolverine: Weapon X (WWX). Those roll off the tongue better.

Raith...Your right...I was doing some tongue rolling and the two titles you mentioned do contribute to a good tongue rolling session, of course after they rolled of my tongue and over my lower lip, the words just fell to the ground, don't ask me what it means but I can assure you that I am looking up a tongue and lower lip specialist to get some kind of insight...I do like the titles you mentioned though...
Your right he does look like a young Jack and your double right about him maybe being a good replacement for Heath as the Joker...

HAHA...after getting a good laugh over your tongue and lip difficulties Forcer, I better find one myself. Guess I'll go to one of my lady friends so they can fix my tongue.

I third that notion, we have our new Joker.

I would reserve judgement on a new Joker casting. No way should someone be cast as the Joker just because he looks a bit like someone who once played the role. I'm not familiar with the guy and if he's a good actor then maybe, but I personally don't want to see a Joker that is a pale imitation of the Nicholson Joker.

***Spoiler Alert*** Because, I'm commenting on the "spoilerish" rumor mentioned above. The Blob would be a nice cameo. Although I don't know how that fat suit is going to look on film. It has worked on some other movies but not always very convincingly. And a 1200 pound mutant is a lot to pull off. I would rather they stuck to the original concept of him being around 600 pounds. But I really love the way they're planning on working in other characters. I can't get any more juiced up for this.
As for spoilers alerts, are they necessary. If you're reading a thread about an upcoming feature shouldn't you expect spoilers automatically.
As for the title, I'm guessing that they're using that format because perhaps they're planning on doing several X-Men origin stories. That way it would appear almost as a series. Regardless of title it will be referred to as "Wolverine" by almost everyone.

Hope they realize, to many characters equals over kill...

Kempmike...you're over-analyzing. I said he should be the Joker because he looks like Joker. Not he should be Joker because he looks like Jack Nicholson. It may seem like that in print but no that's not the reason why I put it out there. That's like saying Coronas should be renamed Budweiser because it tastes like Budwesier...which of course they don't. Now as far as the title change I suggested Wiseguy, try saying its current title to yourself a couple of times. It sounds like two separate movies when it rolls off the tongue.

Hmmm... The only problem with having Huston replace Ledger in this hypothetical situation is that he is visably older than Ledger, and also much lankier. But were he a younger man, I'd agree with you 100%. My only hope is that Joker does die in Dark Knight, thus removing any awkward re-casting situations.

As for the actual news here, though, I can see him passing for a younger Stryker. He's no Brian Cox, but he should do well. I still don't know how I feel about Liev Schreiber playing Creed, though. He's got the acting chops, but he doesn't scream Sabertooth to me.
